Tim Nash Blog Pertaining to the Power Commander V 1 year, 11 months ago #1

I received this in my email this morning.

Hello,

It's been a while! I have been very busy at my regular work these days and I have not made much progress with anything specifically V-Max related this month until this week. I finally got my new Factory Pro load dyno up and running and had my first chance to tune a PCV file for the X-Pipe and EVO air filter. I just wanted to pass along the information about this new problem I found while installing the new Power Commander V on a Gen II V-Max. During this PCV installation, I discovered a problem that caused the ECU to malfunction and the PCV to never register the TPS correctly. I have had another person report the same problem prior to this happening to me. He ended up replacing the TPS and then removed the PCV. I found a simple and cheap fix. Here is what I added to my Site News page. If this is old news, forgive me. I have been out of the loop for a while.

I also wanted to take the time to thank everyone for the e-mails. If I have not responded to them, I will when I have more spare time. Most of them have been asking when I will sell the new products I was working on. I currently have to focus on my company and hope to get back to development of the Gurued Gear soon. Right now, I would be lucky to have the Gurued Gear stuff ready to demo by Biketoberfest (not this coming Bikeweek). I plan on having the bike at Daytona for Biketoberfest with all the goodies installed. Till then, I hope this fix can help anyone that has this issue. I hope to post a new member to the 200rwhp club. Gary Glisson has done it with NOS on his drag bike. More to follow.

Ride soon,
Tim Nash

Has anyone here experienced this problem with their PCV install?

Could not find anything on the Guru blog then I checked the Anti-Guru blog nothing either?

You should try that once: google for "guru blog" its amazing how many gurus we have out there.

As far as PCV: Other than the ground problem - that was since confirmed by Dynojet - you should be good to go.

Install for the digital ground was explained months ago here:

I was just kidding. It sounds so technical, all that resistor talk, surely it must be right - it comes from the all mighty guru after all.

If you really need the PCV to work properly in DIAG mode you can just hook it up to switched 12V power rather than the fuel injector power it gets. In DIAG mode that fuel injector power gets dropped by the ECU - hence disabling the PCV - hence the interference with the TPS signal.

BTW that is the same on the R1 & R6 and has been written about before on other forums.

I doubt 99% of you will ever need that.

What you do need is a good digital ground and that has been discussed in great detail:

Gaprider was so kind to take detailed pics of how to do it.

hmmm im glad this thread has appeared as i missed all this digital ground talk from those months ago!

im getting my bike tuned on a dyno this coming sat and i have just hooked up the pcv as per the manufacturers instructions supplied, im just running a downloaded map and everything feels pretty darn good but will the tuner need to have this mod done in order to tune my bike properly?
