X-Pipe thread info 1 year, 11 months ago #1

I have never posted on this forum. I am looking to tweak the sound of my Max and think from the reading I've done the X-Pipe is the way to go. There are tons of threads on it but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a thread explaining all the details about the x-pipe, for instance what other mods are necessary if you install one. Also HP gains and all other general info. thanx.

Ok, here's a few things you have to ask yourself... 1) I don't have enough HP or Torque on my Stock Gen-2 V-Max??? 2) My Stock Gen-2 V-Max doesn't go fast enough for me??? 3) I wouldn't mind making more noise in the 'hood??? 4) I can afford (money and time) to make all the mods needed??? 5) The stock CAT on my Stock Gen-2 V-Max looks "ugly"??? 6) I always ride my Stock Gen-2 V-Max at WOT/WFO??? 7) I always like being "badder", "bigger" and "faster" than others??? If you answered "FALSE" to any of those, you don't need an X-Pipe"... If you answered "TRUE" to any of them, MAYBE you need an X-Pipe... Then you'll probably need a PCV (Power Commander Version-5) or compatible device to tune the AFRs...then you will probably need to mod your AIS system and maybe your EXUP system and maybe your YCCT system and perhaps alter your normal riding habits and maybe get your bike Dyno Tuned or maybe waste toms of time with an AutoTune module.... Yes, you will need "some" additional mods if you install the X-Pipe...mainly because the exhaust system will be totally different, which will require some sort of changes to your intake system... Is it worth it???...of course it is...if it even comes close to satisfying any of the above 7 questions... Again, welcome and you will find tons of info here on StarVmax with lots of folks with immense knowledge of the bike... |

Thanx for the info. cvvmax, you make it sound like fun. I have some knowledge or the Yamaha 4 stroke engines from snowmobiling, so I know exhaust work sometimes means adding fuel to richen up the curve. I didn't know there would be so many other mods in the other systems. Is there a thread or does anyone have a post that goes over the complete process of adding the pipe and doing the mods? Anyway thanx again I will continue to do my homework. By the way I answered yes to 5 of the questions.

look at top of forums and do a "Search Forum"...Saves time and helps
Search for common mods: Double Clutch Spring Mod Monster Air X-pipe or Akrapovik exhaust including mid pipe Another way is type in "mods" and you'll get the idea quickly good luck |

yox185 welcome just to be clear it can be added alone with the AIS mod this plugs off part of the emisions system and keeps the bike from poping on deceleration the other mods are optional or aditional however you look at it all im lacking is the monster air at the moment and a little nitrous.
Problem 2 if your not already on the wating list for Mike to build a X-pipe rumor is he is extremly busy with real life and already has a long back order to fufuil before taking more orders Sorry. If im wrong mike please chime in. Happy pipe owner Ty |

Anyway thanx again I will continue to do my homework. By the way I answered yes to 5 of the questions. As some other members have mentioned, you can do a search for the various mods that many of us have done, including the X-Pipe mod... As Ty (tjohnsen) has mentioned, you can install the X-Pipe and only do the AIS Valve removal and breather pipe plugging so that the "back firing" on deceleration is ALMOST completely gone... But you will most probably have many places on the AFR curve that are either too rich, too lean or just right depending on which gear you are in, throttle position, RPM, speed, etc... Many of us have opted to install the Power Commander V and in many cases, the AutoTune module, in hopes of "cleaning" up the AFR curve to better meet the riding condition, fuel conservation, torque/HP tuning, etc... It has been a long and at times frustrating endeavor and I for one, have found that it is not an exact science and some compromises must be made...I am convinced that it will never be perfect...my bike runs extremely well but still on occasion, there will be a small back-fire or two...or a slight hesitation on acceleration between gears...since it is relatively minor, I have come to live with most of it but still have been messing around with fiddling with individual table cells, in hopes of getting it a little bit better... Adjusting the PCV on a Dyno brings with it the same sort of fine adjustments, to get it as close to perfect as possible and this can take tens of hours, if not days and weeks on the Dyno, to get it right...across all of the curves... I have seen an almost perfect AFR curve across the board, only to find out that on the road under different loading conditions, there are spots that are still not right... As you mentioned, since you have experience with other AFR curves, you understand the ins and outs of any mods like this and I am not trying to scare you or anyone away from doing these mods, as normally the advantages outweigh the disadvantages...but just wanted to provide you and others with some insight into what to expect...if you decide to go with the mods...
