Blue Ridge Mountain SportMax Seat 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I recently purchased my 05 Vmax (and yes, it's great!!!) and it has what looks like the sportmax seat on it. I don't know if I feel really comfortable on it. Any thoughts of this seat compared to the stock seat?

Thanks for any input

Welcome and good luck with your new max . The sportmax seat is by far the best seat out there for the Gen1 vmax IMHO .

Hi Redmax,
Most folks get the Sportmax seat because of the superior comfort it offers over the stocker. That's why I got one. Also improves the looks by adding a lower and leaner profile, IMHO. I'm about 5'10" and 175 pounds. Not sure what your size and shape are, but I would try to find another gen 1 max with the stock seat to do a quick seat swap with before purchasing the stock one. I guess the other question might be: Do you actually have a Sportmax seat, as opposed to another modded seat? The stock seat always made my butt sore even after short-medium rides. Very wedge-like, with excessive pressure on the inner thighs. Anyway, hope this offers some help to you. Good luck, and safe riding.

Welcome Red,

I never had a custom seat for my gen 1.....

But nothing could be worse than the stock seat!!!

Real comfy at first, till' you have to go more than 20 min....

At least on the gen1 you can have multiple foot rests though. Get the crash/highway bars for feet forward(on bars or over them) and you can always put your feet back too, to stretch out for long rides!!

The genII you're stuck in one position and you feel it in your upperbody instead of your azz!!!

Enjoy the ride,

Another option:find a specialist in modification of seats (they exist!) and tell him what you want...For the price usually it's the best investment imho...For sure look for a "good reputation" one...

I had an 05 with all kinds of accessories. One thing I had was the sport seat with gel and memory foam in the seat. You do not want the stock seat, they are very uncomfortable. Also the crash bars were mentioned. It totally changed my ride when I purchased the crash bars and installed some kurakyn hi-way pegs on them. I could kick back and relax with my feetup or sit up and go on the reg riding pegs. This is a must. The more riding positions you have the more comfortable your ride. If you want the kurakyn peg info I can get that to you. Just pm me.

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I do have the engine guard with extra pegs on mine, and I really do like the change in ride position they offer. I found a stock seat, used, for 75 bucks, so I am going to try it. I will at least have the option of either seat. Anyone with comments or recommendations for a rear tire. The 150 Dunlop on mine has terrible traction. I have managed to mark all of my neighbor's driveways, some not even trying I even lose traction in second gear, and I am really not trying there, and no, I am not abusing the clutch.

Stock seat is like sitting on a beach ball. I had a BRM Sportmax Seat on my Gen 1 and it was great!

You can fit most 170's to the standard rim and swing-arm with no modifications to either. With a 17" rim I ran a 190 on a stock swing-arm.

Good Luck and Welcome!

Metzler for grip, but wears out quick!!

I like the Avon the best....ok traction and burn outs here and there won't require often tire changes!!
