I would consider installing the Akrapovic cross over pipe that eliminates the catalytic converter, but I have yet to hear anything good about the big air kit. I had a generation 1 VMAX that was re-jetted with a Stage 7 kit when I went to the 4 K&N filters, eliminating the air box, but the generation 2 VMAX is so technologicial with the fuel injection and the intake, that eliminating the air box and stuffing on 4 K&N's doesn't necessarily make it any faster.

You just might want to read a little here on the forums. There is plenty of stories from people about the Big Air.

www.starvmax.com/forum/12-general-vmax-d...tic-with-monster-air

But aside from all of that the biggest proof that these things work is in AMA and AMF racing. Any R6 and R1 out there has the secondary stacks removed, most run billet or custom plastic stacks for the very same reason: Once you are no longer restricted by noise emissions, you can open up these airboxes and make them flow really well.

The Big Air works and excels with a good map. We are not talking a few horse power increase. With good pipes like the X-Pipe or the Akrapovic you see north of 7 rwhps gains.

Hope this helps!

Got it. Thx. The akro is installed...and WOW does she sound good! The video clips just don't do it justice. The sound is perfect...not abnoxiously loud, but a wonderful "I'm here, and I'm bad" sound...

Got mine fitted as well along with other updates for this season. Just cant wait to get the covers on, snowdrift off and begin test driving with all new gizmotron

The first smoke video - click!

N.B. Unfortunately Igor Akrapovic & comrades forgot to pack a few essential clamps & nuts. Otherwise the product is just amazing! When I got the shipment, the two cartons felt so light that I first though that seller has screwed me over by sending only packing materials

Slightly off topic again but here is another video of max with akra idling/reving a bit without noise dampers...

clicks!

...after first 90 miles / 150 km test run I am drunk with happiness and even more addicted to this bike!

My rear tire become bald because of evo's power shifter rehearsals and repeated acceleration from zero.

Even though I have not dyno the bike as yet (running autotune & "evoluzione_advanced" -map) already it seems clear that pcv, race ecu, performance air filter, acra slip-on & collector set up works just great!

So, I think these are the mods for me, at least for the time being

By replacing the catalytic converter with the Akrapovic crossover pipe, what will I gain?

A) Reduced weight ? That's a given.

Better Sound ? I'm going to use the stock mufflers.

C) Increased HP?

D) Improved perrformance?

Is it worth the $700 ?

All of the above, only you can decide on the price value.

A) 18.5 lbs
Much better...but not obnoxious
C) +20 rwhp if combined with big air and a good map
D) See A & C
Worth it? No question imo, there is a substantial change in acceleration...it changes from awesome to absolutely ridiculous. But that's a personal opinion and decision. The good news is that you can easily find them for $650. The bad news is that you have to buy the air box mod and a PCV to get what I'm talking about.

With the Akro mid pipe, is there any diference between using the stolk cans or the Akro cans performance/hp wise?

From what i've read here on the forum, the bulk of performance improvement is from the midpipe..not much from the cans.......i dont have dyno data, just from postings here though(so don't get me to lying)
