On a gen1 I assume they are not really hard and alot of dealerships have mechanics that are also afraid of them or still dont know how to fix them. I will also asume you are having some kind of running problem? Depending on the running problem can look for specific things if old carbs floats stick and jets plug or just think dirty? They come off in the bank of four again if old the rubber boots that hold to intake crack alot and can also cause problems be sure they are in good condition!
Removal scoops air box throttle cables disconnect under left scoop by stering neck fuel disconnect under seat below radiator overflow bottle 4 rubber gromets and pull them off. I always kept carbs in blocks of two removal of side plates let them swing together to remove bowls linkage arms can stay in place the pilot jets are in a block that can be removed to clean completly very small jets affect idle most. Slide diaphrams in side of carbs also get sticky and can crack or split diaphram key area to check. Reasembly place all 4 as flat as possible and put side plates back on reassemble on bike warm up and sync also have AF screws on sides of carb to adjust. Things to consider what exhaust does it already have a jet kit and what are problems? would also check float height before tearing down, so more info first later Ty |
