TOPIC: Painted mufflers

Painted mufflers 1 year, 9 months ago #1

Has any one painted the "gray" section of the stock exhaust? I would think that black would look good on this. Any input on what to use to accomplish this.

This area is between the caps and the exhaust

Ask Forgottenone1227 since that's his Max.. I think his dealer had it painted.

Yes, he bought it painted from the dealer. He said he wasn't sure about the quality. He has noticed some paint peeling off some places.

On mufflers I would have them ceramic coated that will stick no matter the temp. There is a place in Sheboygan Wisc that does it they can even do headers.

The mufflers are made of titanium and grey is the natural color. Looks great unpainted in my opinion.

Oh hey there, yep my bike is completely blacked out and I LOVE it!!

And man does it turn the heads. I think some of it is because it doesn't have any brand or model indictation on it anywhere.
The guys are right, my dealer claims that they had it 'professionally' custom painted so I'm not sure what was used. The guages and controls look very well done and the exhaust is holding the paint very well other than one small spot that looks like it was touched or bumped while it was still wet. I did have a patch of black come off of the left side panel but its all better know. And a couple of other nicks and scrapes in places have made me wonder whether the all black was such a good idea because they show up so well. But I wouldn't change it for the world.

Indeed I have. I successfully applied 1500 degree black satin paint to this area. I made this mod last year & it has not flaked or discolored. Additionally I fashioned four 1 1/2" pipe extensions & installed them some months ago. They too have remained intact. The paint usually can be purchased @ most auto parts stores. Black greatly improves appearance over the drab OEM color,to be sure. Good luck. C'est la vie.
