let me introduce myself i am new here. my name is carl im 25 and live in canton ohio. i recently purchased a 95 vmax with 32k miles. after owning my 86 fazer 700 for years now i have big and little brother. anyway i have sometimes 13 volts at idle and when i gas it the voltage will drop below 12.6 volts. i know its a different bike but my fazer has 13 at idle and when i gas it, it will go to about 14.5 volts. i am confused do i have a bad voltage regulator ? im a car mechanic that loves bikes not a bike mechanic. the battery is about 3 months old in the vmax i have checked battery cables. and now i understand what all the talk is about owning a vmax this bike is the shit ! please help ! !

Yup, change the regulator behind the left rear peg.. It fails intermittent ... I've gone through a couple batteries on this issue... Sometimes even a diode check looks good on the regulator, but then fails with operating temps.

yes i am having issues i went to drop this chick off today after about 50 min of riding and i had to jump the bike to get it to crank. i noticed everytime i shut it off it seamed to crank a little slower every time. i bought the bike saturday.

I went a whole year just jump start'n it!!

D you have a new battery?

There is a diode check in the manual, but reading change while running.


Now you're gonna ask, where to buy it??

well it sure sounds like you are very knowledgeable about these bikes. if ya think i should go buy a book and do the diode check first then im game but if these things are known to suck it sounds like it would be a worth while purchase anyway since they go out all the time. also i read on here about using a reg rec off of a 97 and up ?? any input on that ?
