TOPIC: Popping on Decel

Popping on Decel 1 year, 5 months ago #1

I just had a chance to ride the Max after putting the x-pipe on and noticed a lot of popping on decel through the first three gears. I did the AIS mod and also installed the exup eliminator plug-in.

Is this normal for the x-pipe when closing the throttle?

I have not noticed any exhaust leaks!

I have the exact same problem. Not a peep on accelerating or on a moderate decel, but pops on hard decel. I too have done the AIS plug off and my pipes are all tighty tight. I just dropped mine off at the tuner for a dyno map and tune. Lets see if he makes it go away. I should know in the nextday or two.

Rick,

Thanks for replying!

I really don't mind the popping just wondering who else had it.

I think some flames out the exhaust would be cool though! Maybe on the next mod!

For now though I have to go reride again because I forgot the exact sound again!

Alright back to being serious again, anyone else have input?

Ken do you have a Power Commander installed? If so what map? The only way to "almost" totally eliminate the popping is to add fuel to the "0" throttle positions in the map. I've found that starting at 1250 rpm by adding 5 then ramping up at each rpm increment to 20 through 6000 rpm, then ramping back down to 5 right through 9000 rpm works well for me. I also have the Monster air kit, but the increase is needed with the stock air box as well.
Rick your dyno guy will probably know this already but if not tell him to do it.

Yep, mine was popping on decel also. Added fuel to the 0 throttle settings and no more popping.

Mark / (itgoes),

A big thank you for the input and insight!

I bought a Power Commander last year but never even opened the box yet...so yes I have one, but not installed.

I was figuring on being able to run the x-pipe for a little while without fuel mapping since I've done no mods to the airbox "yet". So I was surprized to hear popping with the AIS mod completed.

But it is what it is and that's okay! Looks like I got homework to do to figure out the Power Commander and install. Isn't there something about the wiring needing a fix or something for the Power Commander?

Any tips for the install anyone?
