Hi , I installed a set of Rizoma bars on my business partners bike I like the black but don't care much for the setback at least on the ones he ended up with I prefer the stock but want gloss black ones. My question is about heating in the process and the bar end plugs I have never really found a way to remove them without destroying them (any tricks)
but I would think 350 degrees for 60 min would toast the rubber for sure anyone crossed this bridge before? |

Yes, capt. Been down the road and crossed it successfully. Had mine powderder coated a fine texture black and the barends went on fine when I re-installed them.. I didn't know there was rubber in the end of the bar tho..

Bigbikelupo showed everyone here the way to remove the internal bar end plugs. It's as simple as using a socket, or piece of tubing the size of the bars, and a longer bolt. Bolt a short piece of tubing or a socket to the bar ends and tighten. The plugs pull right out. Takes about 2 minutes per side.. They come right out.

Hey Bad Max, iT'S NO MUCH A PIECE OF CAKE ON MY BARS I tried a shallow and deep dish socket with a grade 5 bolt and these plugs wont budge I clamped the bars in the vise and gave it to the point of shearing off the bolt and everything heated up just from the tension but still no movement I was using a 13/16 th so it would not hit the socket should I try a little heat , I noticed one poster had his done with the plugs still in the bars

Maybe thats why they call him Big bike lupo cuz he's tuff at least tuffer than me , Should have em back tomorrow hoping for the best 30$ powder coating job I can get.
I think if the lips of the bars have any burrs or have been knocked the sleeve is just a thousandths from the outer edge it kinda sandwiches themselves together , I almost used a tubing cutter to trim a 1/4 inch off the end of the bars to give a fresh edge and use the plug as a guide but decieded screw it just drop em off. Thanks Bad |
