TOPIC: What's a dyno run cost?

What's a dyno run cost? 2 years 7 months ago #1

Two questions:

1. How much does it cost to have a bike put on the dyno and a baseline set of #s provided?

2. How much does it cost to have someone tune your Vmax (with PCV) using the dyno? And how many dyno runs does it typically take to get satisfactory results?

Mike
I have just ordered PCV. Dyno is planned for tomorrow. List of mods: UFO CatSass + Big Air + PCV. I'll keep you informed (incl. maps + costs)

This is where I went yesterday:

www.dyno-solutions.com/general_pricing

Aside of a low hp number and a general census that the guy is way too cautious, he seemed knowledgable and went through all the gears and rpm ranges (250RPM intervals),
generated and sent me maps as well. The bike runs great.

Mike.

1. Depends, some shops charge a flat rate for a few pulls, others charge by the hour or half hour. Either way expect $35 - $75 for baseline

2. I've had maps done a couple of times, around $250. The most advanved Dynos can autotune under load. I'd look for a shop with the most current set up.

Ask around before you just pick someone. If you find somebody ask them questions about the dyno. Maybe ask how long they have had the dyno and when it has been serviced last. If they are confident they will list some of their memorable bike dyno experiences listing bikes in particular.

I went to a dyno in a custom motorcycle shop once and it was a disaster. The owner knew very little about his own dyno that I found out later. The dyno exhaust analyzer was not reading the exhaust mixture correctly. I ended up running the dyno for a while that day with an asigned mechanic until I was kicked out because my bike was too loud. Plus he had no idea what a Vmax was. WTF!

Thanks guys.

Motorsci - Your experience is what I am concerned about. I don't even know who has a dyno in the Evansville, IN area, other than the Kawasaki/KTM/Victory dealer. No idea if they have a clue, or maybe they are outstanding. Local guys seem to have little knowledge, or at least I run in the wrong circle of guys who know anything about performance. Guess I need some new friends

i don't think your numbers are that low, mine showed the same with similar mods. at the end of the day does the Hp # really make a difference, i mean this bike will still put a smile on my face at 175 HP or at 200 Hp. I'm more interested in having it run good at whatever HP, just my opinion.

Don,

That's a very casual attitude for a guy that loves making more HP !

I agree the the bike should run good at all power levels.

And Yes, I'm sure your smiling at 175HP. However your Smile Is Much Bigger At 200HP--25HP on a bike is a big difference !

Ask yourself if your Smile got any Bigger when your Cobra went from 500HP to 715HP ?
