I thought the question was anyone having problems cant say that I am so dont know what to look for but have heard more than three question this topic in the past. later Ty Ty, Yeah...I was trying to narrow down the problem by getting responses from folks that have had the ABS light come ON for no obvious reason... And, as you state, there were questions and reports about folks having the ABS light come ON and like so many other problems, there seems to be that, those problems go unanswered and/or unresolved, like with this ABS light problem... I am determined to get to the root cause of MAXI's problem on his bike...since I witnessed this random problem for 400 miles or so, when he let me borrow his bike here in Japan for a M/C Meet that I went to... So, this is problem that is not second hand info...and therefore gives me more reason to find the cause... Right now...I am looking into two areas... 1) The rear turn signal mods 2) 240mm Wide Rim mod Appreciate your input... Art |

Please excuse my ignorance Art, but how is the 240 a possibility? The geometry? I never had a problem with ABS light. I snipped off my stock rear turn signals, replaced with reg bulb sigs and just taped up my plate light and do not have a race ecu. I've seen you mention the 240 tho. I just put a new 240 purchased from fellow Vmaxer Tyler and eliminated the inspection cover and used high performance tape (also from Tyler) over the hole. Whattttts the deeeeeaaallll with the 240?? Hope you're still having a good time there and your family is ok.

Well, when I started looking into this problem...on this particular bike, I had to try and isolate the cause and the approximate time that it started occurring..which was around the time that the LED Turn Signals and the 240mm Wide Rim were installed... Also...there were other reports from owners here on StarVmax, that they had the ABS come on for no reason and in reading those threads, there was mention of having this problem, right after installing the 240mm wide rim... I sat down with some others and tried to figure out how the 240mm wide rim mod could cause this issue and on the surface, one would normally jump right on the ABS sensor as the direct cause...but after those folks re-verified that the sensor and receptacle were clean...we started looking at the differences in the parts with the OEM parts and 240mm kit parts and the only thing that is different is that one ring spacer that is no longer used when the 240mm kit is installed... I am not 100% sure but that ring, I think is not only a protective ring but also has some sort of magnetic effect on the ABS sensor...am not 100% sure, like I said but that is where my thinking is coming from... To better understand what is going on, I JUST purchased AGAIN, another 240mm kit so that, IF the LED turn signals turn out to NOT be the cause, I will at least have a 240mm to put on MY bike in San Diego and see if I can replicate the problem... Why would I go to that extent???...because MAXI is a great friend and I am the one that sent him, the 240mm kit along with many, many other parts and accessories from the US to Japan and I feel kind of bad about it...and the other reason is that...problems don't just happen...there has to be a cause...and I am the type that will not give up until I have the answer...although many folks, have decided to "live" with the problem since they could not find the cause... With me, it comes from my Navy days repairing on FBM Subs and my days working on payloads for the International Space Station...things HAD to be 100%, ALL of the time...for obvious reasons... I have had my share of bashing for being so persistent on what some consider, "small" problems...to me, a small problem is when you have two commodes on a Submarine and one won't flush...when you have one ABS and it has an alarm...that is not "small" in my mind...but that's ME...and has nothing to do with what others feel or think... Typhoon #14 is about 300 miles SE of Tokyo, heading N-NW and it has been raining now for two days...and is getting worse with sustained winds of 40-60MPH and getting stronger...it's 10:25 AM right now and the typhoon should be passing us in about 6 hours or so...and I have to meet MAXI at noon in downtown Tokyo, to visit some V-Max dealers and tuning shops...I HATE THE RAIN...can't wait to get back to "Sunny Southern California" and go riding on my BRAND NEW 2010 V-Max with still only 325 miles on it... Appreciate your feedback... Art |

2009 VMX. ABS recently started blinking. Goes away after power off. Light acceleration trips it. Not all the time. Erratic. Any clues.
