I found a real close match to Yamaha's case/engine color Get it at Autozone/Advance ect. Mfg. Dupli Color Part #26916 91651 color "Cast Coat iron" this is a real close match and contains ceramic and has about the same texture , I spray some in the cap and use a small artist brush have to look real close to see the fix you can duplicate the process with some clear enamel and clear coat if you need to or just fog the area lightly. I am posing some pics Good Luck El Capitan |

Hey El Captain,
The can says 500 degrees...do you think that same Dupli Coat paint, of course in a different color would work on an X-Pipe???...and hold up because it does have the Ceramic in it???... And thanks for the info on the paint for the cases... Art |

I used this paint before on headers and it just burned off, however Duplicolour selld a header specific paint, it is a flat black and even says flame proof on the can it is good to 1200F. I used that on the headers for the 4-1 I had on my 09 and even after the fire I wiped the dirt off and looked like new! vmaxmercer |

Art that is true you need at least 900 degree for the header x pipe anything close to the engine exhaust wise , I just did the exhaust Manifold on a 61 Jag XKE with a ceramic based 1200 degree paint and it was not flat I could not use BBQ paint on this car but it came out excellent and has a nice semi gloss finish I am heading into the warehouse for a couple of hours this morning will get the paint info and take a shot of the manifold for reference just to satisfy my curiosity I will check the x pipe with the digital when I get in this morning.

I'm in no hurry since I just happen to have another BLACK X-Pipe that is like NEW that I can use for a 2009 that I am completely rebuilding from the ground up...just wanted to get some paint to do this other X-Pipe that needs to be redone on a "rainy day"...which we have been getting more frequently here in Southern Cal...once I get the spare X-Pipe repainted...I can put it away for maybe the next bike I pick up... Appreciate your feedback and any help on the source for the paint would be much appreciated... Made any progress on your re-purchased bike???...I got parts lying around...PM me with any questions... It looks like this X-Pipe at one time, may have had a ceramic flat black paint put on it but some areas did not stick to the pipe and looks like it either burned off or was touched up with a non-high heat paint and consequently, it too burned off...so I have taken off what I can and will hit the whole pipe with some sand paper to make sure I can get as much of the crap off and then I wanted the high heat paint that you and vmaxmercer are talking about to repaint the thing... I wouldn't normally go through all this hassle on a header pipe but as you know, the infamous X-Pipe is a rare commodity and having three of them is a rarity in itself, I would think... Art |

Most auto shops have an extractor manifold specific paint, It can withstand temps of 1000'C/1832'f. Not sure if you could mix tint shades though, it might burn the tint from the paint.
I chose a red spray can and painted an old 6 into 1 set of extractors from an EH Holden, Even parked up without the engine running they looked like they would burn ya. |
