TOPIC: Pre flash and Pre Monster air...Barona drags.

Pre flash and Pre Monster air...Barona drags. 2 years 10 hours ago #1

Hello All

I ended up doing some drag racing this last weekend. I raced Friday night 10:00 pm 56 degrees at 100 ft altitude (cooler dense air)and ran a best run of 6.755 at 109.2 in the 1/8 mile, 24 psi tire with stock tire.

Saturday I ran a best run of 6.828 at 107.60. 20 psi tire pressure, 4:30 pm 1500 ft altitude about 80 degrees. My 60 foot sucked on this run, but I did manage a 1.617 during the day.

I seem to be able to run a tenth faster when I dose my 91 octane with Octane booster.

I have Mod Air Box
mid pipe, slip-ons
PC V with custom map
Quickshifter set at 65 mils all gears
Stock tire with pressures above
Double Clutch mod
I am about 225 lbs in full race gear.
Last dyno was 188 rear wheel with 125 ft lbs torque... number are SAE

I received my Monster Air kit today and am getting ready to install it. So, back to the dyno after I get flashed.

Any suggestions on a better tire in the w/o going to the 240 wide?

Any other suggestions will be much appreciated. Loose 20 ls?, I am working on that also....:weight:

Just wondering if anyone out there has input. Thanks All

I am posting all my times and info to help others make appropriate decisions on what and where they want to go with their bikes.

I am on my way to getting into the 9's one way or another. Better input from people that been there, done that could save others and even myself some cash in the quest for sub 10 second 1/4 mile.

Happy reading. :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :yeah: :nerd3:

Good work Ron. You look good out there. Keep it up (front wheel down) and feather that clutch. I really can't throw stones. I couldn't get my mojo on our last outing. Let us know what difference you get out of the Monster air. I was thinking about getting one. I'd like to know the true ponies you get out of it. Keep us posted.
Oh, let me know what you think about the noise it makes too.

will do, I will have true numbers due to them running the dyno before and after install on the same day.

It will be good data.

I am going to have them set up my gears so I can select different shifter kills for higher gears. 65 mils worked great where it was, but having them set it up on the dyno willget me down the strip quicker...I hope.

Anyone out there have a 92 Lbs Girlfriend I can barrow for a weekend? She needs to know how to drag,I have been told that for ever 25 lbs saved on weight is .100" in the 1/4 mile

Darryl hear that ya better lay off the Corn Dogs !

Good job Ron the 1/8 mile is all you need to master the second part is easy , Darryl and Mark seem to like the Conti's real sticky
but wear out very quickly I man very quickly good on the track though and they come in a 200 series as well as the 240 Big bob says 20 lbs air is the number but it looks like you were hooking up pretty good what was your launch RPM ?

About 5,000 RPM. I have the Double spring mod, so she was not slipping a bit. I actually got my 12.9 6mm x 1.0 x 25mm screws at Lowe's for $2.04 plus tax for a package of 2. So, for $6.12 plus tax you get even tougher screws. I went with the allen-heads.
After flashing I might need a wheelie bar...LOL! I had a bad experience when I was 17 Flipped a Yamaha IT 250 enduro at 40 mph on asphalt, with just a helmet and cheap gloves. I learned that day that attempting wheelies was for people who could actually do them.

:ohno: :ohno:

I do have a M T 25.0 x 5.50 / 18 drag slick I had on the previous time I was at the track. Got it from e bay for $132 delivered to the door. The MT 25.0 x 7.00 /18 runs about $200.00, but I was getting good hooks with the 5.50 wide tire.

Either the Metzler 210/40 18 or the Bridgestone will lower your ET due to the gear change the shorter tire offers. My bikes best 60ft time was 1.57 with that tire & it improved ET by 3 tenths over previous outing, but that also included adding the Xpipe. The low profile tire actually helps more in the 1/4 mile, allowing you to use 5th gear, and pulling hard thru the traps. 20psi max to get it to hookup.

Hey Ron good to see your having some fun at track. If you are already cutting 1.61 60 footers, I ain't got nothing to offer as far as technique....thats way better than me! I would have been in the 9's my very first time to the track if I could manage a 60 ft time like that. I ran 10.23 first time with a 1.82 60 foot.

As far as tires go....the stickiest tire out there would be the Shinko. It's a 180, but is the best tire out there as far as traction goes. As Bad_Max said a 210/40 18 will improve the gearing.
The Monster Air it's good for 5 - 8 hp on top and will improve you times for sure.

Keep us up to date on your progress & good luck!

I ran my brothers thrashed 85 max at Barona a couple years ago when visiting him in Ramona. That was right after installing second gear in it for the second time. Although the bike is a little tired I managed a 7.5 at about 95mph. For a small 8th mile track they do a good job of preping the track. Real sticky! Hope to bring my 09 down there this fall.

Check out the run out area at the end of the track if you have something real fast it better have good brakes also.

I've never heard of the 200 Conti's. Would you mind showing and sharing where you found them?
Have any pics I could see?
Thanx
