TOPIC: AIS Mod revisited

A new member PM'd me asking about how the AIS mod is done. The original thread is kind of long so I thought I would start a new one.
This mod only needs to be done if you have removed the catalytic converter. It will help reduce "popping" through the exhaust. The mod is a simple plugging/capping of the 3 hoses that that connect to the Air Injection Solenoid that is located under the left hand scoop. Some people remove the valve as well. The 2 pictures below show everything you need to be aware of. This photo shows the valve and the hoses. This photo shows the valve removed and the hoses capped. In the yellow boxes are the plugged hoses in the red box is the solenoid connector with heat shrink tubing on it. |

Lighter? By a few ounces maybe... I noticed a lot less popping on my UFO 4-1 once i plugged off the hoses and took the valve off... but no real performance gain...
You're runnin straight pipes on your Max w/out baffles or anything?? How long you been doin' that? |

8 months or so the biggest problem i had was one of the pipes kept clipping off the other but a quick weld and it fixed all the popping so maybe u just have an exhaust leak

I finally got around to doing this mod. It was only 45 out so very short test, but wish I would have done sooner so that people didn't somehow mistake me for a,,,,Sorry Harley,,,, when popping down the hill to my house. Anyone putting this off until later do it takes no time at all and if you don't have a junk or tool drawer full of plugs order the cheap kit from Tim it would be worth it.

Ok next is to to put my AIS Plugs on. I see by the pic in this tread 3 plug locations on the LT side and 2 on the RT side? I'm assuming that one plug is for the fitting and the other is for the hose on the right side? I believe 6 plugs was included in the kit is the 6th on a spare?

Hi,
Just done mine and did not take the valve off... just removed the hose going into the air box. That leaves you with 2 hoses to plug off, and the valve to blank (4) plus one of the big blak cover that I put over the electric connector, and one on the air box that's 6 covers and 2 plugs!! |
