TOPIC: Diavel mud flap/splash guard on the Max

Sorry, should have referenced the luggage rack, not the tank.
The luggage rack commonly mounted to the VMAX is aluminum and the back rest support is steel. add the wieght of a fuel tank to the dissimilar metals without rubber grommets or padding to absorb vibrations and the luggage rack will crack mine severed completely through on one side and 50% on the other, near the end of a 5000 mile (correction) road trip to Florida and back. (not suggesting Ted had dissimilar metals, was just reminded of the vibration point rear of the drive) ----PeaDawg |

So Ted, if/when that breaks, do you have to worry about(in motion) it diggin into a fast-turning rear wheel and being flung disasterously into the bike----and your back????
....or am I overthinking that gig? |

I checked it all the time and after and b4 everyride..So i caught it in time, but yea, it could been BAD i'm sure..
Lucky i caught it in time.. Now that i have it off the bike, i did notice no vibration coming for the bike after i removed it.. Like P-Dawg said, something to cut out vibration would go along way..You can't just have metal on metal and try and get away with it.. |

No one believed me i told you in two posts fully insulated I gave it about 6-700 miles metal to metal
Ted send me the Flap i will make you a bracket that will stand up to the Max and still look good same basic design just engineered with vibration in mind. |

You'll need thicker brackets and some vibration isolation, either with large flat washers & nylon underneath the washers or something. Otherwise over time, the vibration will break the metal.. The Diavel suspension is stiffer than the Vmax and that overdesigned contraption has a chance properly bolted on a Diavel.. It's too heavy to be flopping off the pumpkin of a Vmax like that |
