TOPIC: Plug&Play Xenon HID Kit with Hi/Low Beams
Plug&Play Xenon HID Kit with Hi/Low Beams 11 months 3 weeks ago #1

Hi Folks, I picked up a HID (auto) kit and was able to install it with great ease and great results, so I thought I share the experience with other folks who are thinking about this mod.
Interestingly this kit plugs right into the factory harness and functions with the high/low switch flawlessly out of the box. When the low beam is on, the Xenon bulb goes on, but when the high beam is on, a secondary regular bulb goes on as seen in the pictures! I will run with this set up in a night and will report on how well lit is the street with these lights. Here is the low beam, Xenon is on: Here is the high beam, regular bulb is on: Here is a picture of the box: Box content, notice the harness plugs right into the one that comes out of the factory bulb. There is a good right up on how to install this kit, so refer to this link for installation procedure: www.starvmax.com/forum/installed-mods/11...nstall-with-pictures |

Hi Ebi,
The install looks great, however this is not the proper way to do this. Please don't take this as a personal attack on your project as I did the exact same thing 3.5 years ago (my first mod) with the same result. The factory reflector on the VMAX or any other vehicle with reflector based headlights isn't designed to work with Xenon bulb/syystem. WHile you get the blue look the function just isn't there. You will find that visibility will be greatly reduced from your stock H4 bulb, but also the beam will be all over the place on the road (blinding the oncoming traffic and reducing your visibility) This is illegal in many countries (not sure about US). This is why a few of us decided to retrofit our headlight as this is the proper way of doing this. You can see a thread here if you haven't already: www.starvmax.com/forum/installed-mods/16...t-projector-retrofit Again I don't mean to rain on your parade, just be aware of above facts and decide if you want to keep it. |

These are good points. I do most of my riding in day light, but will certainly try this on the road and consider the downsides. I personally am not a big fan of Xenon, but the great visibility that blue colour introduces is certainly a plus for safety. I don't like retrofitting either, so either this or factory lights has to do it for me.
