TOPIC: Am I alone to have undone the DD clutch mod ?

Am I alone to have undone the DD clutch mod ? 11 months 1 week ago #1

I gave me 3 days to get use to it but I could not stand it more. The mod was not for me.

I have medium size hands and the lever pull difference was too much. I shift with only 2 fingers.

For me , it broke a kind of natural harmony, and kind of pace with the bike. The slipper clutch fonction changed , and I lost like a kind of smothness while shifting down.

A shame, that spring cost me a 100$ canadian.

Am I alone to have reverted back ?

U could get used to it..I did and i should of removed mine when i did my track day..The DD was not a good idea on a track.. 1/8 and 1/4 mile yes, but even on back country roads can get in ur way as well.. My clutch plats lasted with it tho..30K+ miles with it..I may go back to it one day..

I'm looking to make changes to the BEAST..And this may be one..Just put in back in IF i go back to the 1/4 or 1/8 mile.. It just takes a min. to take on and off..

And yes, the pull on the clutch lever is waaaaaay toooooo hard and my 4arm suffered for a bit..

Surprized to hear this ! :ohno: The DD was the second mod I did on my Gen2... around the 1,200 mile odometer mark, and the difference in lever pull before & after was very slight IMO. Just adjusted the lever setting to #2 for a better release point. I'm keeping it !

Now, the DD mod on the Gen1 ... that's some increase in lever pull. I couldn't handle that and ended taking it out of the Gen1.

What did you do with the spring plate seat? Did you keep it stock? Did you purchase the modified one?

The slipper still seems to work ok with mine....although the wide Sticky Conti tire may be helping as well.

I could/would regularly lock up and severely hop the rear tire on my Gen 1 when down shifting aggressively. I don't have that issue at all with the DD on the Gen 2.

Changing out the levers helps a lot as far as the pull goes, and I think the braided lines probably help as well.

I like the dd mod a lot! Yes, a little getting used to on clutch pull but WOW what a difference on a hard shift! I thought us old "married guys" had a good grip..... :puhh:

Mush,
You're not alone...the DD mod does take a bit more hand/wrist pressure and like you mention, I too use less than four fingers, usually two and with that, it was just too much pressure for me...and the advantages did not outweigh the disadvantages of having to "re-learn" how I used my left hand to pull the clutch lever...so the DD mod was pulled out...

Not saying that the advantages are not worth it though...for most folks, it IS a great mod, just like it was on the GEN1s...

The advantage of the mod was for me was less slipage. Now I can tel that in the stock condition , the clutch really slip (both ways ... or accelerations and downshiftings) but not enought for me to struggle to relearn how to slow speed shift. For me , it is all about smoothness. I have delicate hands ( :) ) and have to have the greatest number of fingers to hang me to the bike while hard accelerating (the reason to pull that lever with only 2 fingers).

Maybe it will be worthwhile for me if I mod that bike someday.

Enjoy the ride. be secure.

Get some miles on it couple thou and the plates will be friendlier and you will have a much easier pull , I know this first hand I was stubborn and waited till about 3K to do this mod and I really could not detect any increase in pull but after a new set of plates
the tension is greater as mark said a good set of Levers make all the difference you can even adjust how you like the clutch to engage closer to grip or opposite , AGV , Pazzo or the "ride it" Chinese knocks. I use the Shortys and would not have it any other way you double the life of your 300 dollar clutch too.

I use a pazzo shorty also with the dd. Find it no problems and use 2 fingers when dragging at the strip. The other2 fingers are to help stay on at the start. I use a pazzo long for the front brake .
