TOPIC: Blacking out Holeshot Midpipes and Cans

Blacking out Holeshot Midpipes and Cans 11 months 1 week ago #1

So my bike is blacked out see. The problem is now I have Dale's midpipes and cans and they are not black.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to make them black. Dale said to have them ceramic coated, which I was going to do until I started wondering how the ceramic would be applied around the slip joints and how well it would hold up around the clamps and such.

Now I'm thinking of wrapping them with the black tape like Q did on his pipes. This might be easiest.

Any ideas?

:hmmm:

All you need to do is wrap the pipe.. Less heat, better looks, cheapest DIY solution ;)

You could also coat the can to hide the stainless..

Yeah, if I wrap them, I will probably leave the cans alone. I think it would look OK with the end caps of the cans being chrome with the rest black. Kinda like the little chromed plastic covers right below the throttle bodies. Sort of a 'chrome at the beginning and again at the end' sort of thing.

I had mine ceramic coated. I just took some steel wool to the joints to shave them down a bit. If you get them just right you'll have a very tight fit, no leaks. No problem with the clamps at all. I roughed them up and sprayed them myself with some flat black to match.

I'd go with the Header Wrap...cheapest, easy to do, plus it gives it that old school hot-rod look too! I've done quite a few header wrap's, it does cut down on the heat factor more than ceramic coatings. A 50' roll will be more than plenty!

I used the wrap on my R3 and it seemed to move the header heat down to the cans. This made the packing burn up quicker which made the bike louder. It does look old skool.

Good luck with what use..
