TOPIC: Things to do when your bored (garage door opener)

Things to do when your bored (garage door opener) 10 months 7 hours ago #1

Last semester, I got bored waiting between Anatomy/Physiology and microbiology classes, so I took the garage door opener out of my Dodge.

I wired up a small momentary button to a stereo headphone type jack. Then I opened up the garage door opener, and soldered in a female jack. Then put it all together.

I tested it, and it works great! After class I opened up my left controls and mounted the momentary switch just above my Hi/Lo beam switch.

Now when I park the Dodge for the summer I'll just take the remote, plug in the switch and let it rest on top of the airbox beneath the Vmax's faux tank, and in the fall, just unplug it and put it back in the Dodge.

Its a boring mod, but it's nice coming home and not have to fumble around my jacket to get to the remote.

Nice, very cool mod....great idea!

My 10 year old daughter always opens the door for me from inside the house when she hears me coming. Unfortunately one night the door was left open, and as I rolled in the garage at good clip, she hit the button. :scary:

I never saw the door coming down.....but I sure felt it when it clipped my helmet on my forehead. I did see stars however. :rolleyes2:
If it had come down another 4" or so I think the bike would have entered the garage without me. :puhh:

When the door is open now......I proceed VERY Carefully.

KJ...hey that's not a boring mod...good job!

Mark....I found out years ago how quickly an automatic door can come down..........ran ambulance calls for a volunteer company.....someone switched remotes in two of the ambulances....multiple ambulance call.....I responded to the scene less one full width top lightbar!

Art CVVMAX installed a R1 switchbox in place of the factory one and did a similar mod with the extra button if memory serves , What a usable mod nice job , Always wanted to do that but got lazy and velcro'ed a micro size opener to the CF support
arm for the Magical faring no where near as slick but still effective

No not yet, Summer session of school started. They stuff a full semester of lecture and lab in to 6 weeks, so I haven't had the time to work on it. The air tank, digital button is done. I have to do the engine kill and buy the air cylinder.

Capt,
I used the R1 right hand control assy's "MODE" switch for the Map-1/Autotune OFF or Map-2/Autotune ON for the AT-200/PCV...

My garage door open switch is on the Instrument Panel Cover...

I started to do this on my ninja a couple years ago, went in the house to get something and set part of the fairing down on the soldering iron when I came back out side I smelled something burning. Oooops! Was so pissed off never finished it. I am now inspired!
