I know this has been discussed a million times BUT can someone explain to me what is the X-Pipe and show me a couple of pix. I would love to have it, I've heard the comparison between stock and X-Pipe in the video but what is it? I really like the way the stock can look but don't like the sound.

Rider,
Your question is a very good one. Mike (Blueta71) has designed a very neat solution to replace the large Exhaust Chamber piece which contains the heart of Yamaha EXUP system. I am sure Mike can tell you in more detail his idea. What I know is that the removal of such piece allows for a much larger outflow of gases from the exhaust cycle thus basically changing the way in which the engine "breathes". Such change affects measured HP and I believe also torque. The piece is called X-Pipe given its shape. You can see a picture of the set-up here www.starvmax.com/index.php?option=com_ku...atid=13&id=45872 I believe that the image is Theohiomike Vmax. Hope this helps. rider wrote: I know this has been discussed a million times BUT can someone explain to me what is the X-Pipe and show me a couple of pix. Hello rider a quick follow up on your question.
Once the X-Pipe is installed the bike will run slightly rich if anything (according to Mike). Overall you will notice power improvement all the way through the power band. Oliver, has kindly made available the dyno run for his bike under three conditions. You can see the results on the very front page of tis site. These are the 3 conditions. 1) stock 2) X-Pipe 3) X-Pipe and PC III (this is a fuel management unit that allows for the adjustment of fuel delivery curve) Notice that regardless the presence or not of a fuel management unit your VMax will perform stronger all the way through the power band More noticeable is the gain at 3,500 rpm. This is the range that most of us hit while riding under street conditions from 3,500 all the way to 7,000 RPM. If you look at it you will see that it is exactly in these RPM ranges that the X-Pipe is the most effective. Mike's product is definitely a good improvement for your VMax. Good without the PC III unit and even better with the fuel management unit. Mike is also extremely helpful and will see through that you are satisfied with his product. I highly recommend his business. The only missing part is the corrected fuel mapping for the PCIII. In other words we will need the right set up for the fuel management unit. I believe Oliver was going to make that available once he has the final set-up figured out. But I am not sure. Hope this helps. VP09 rider wrote: Thank you now I see!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS vpower09 |

Well today I came face to face and ear to exhaust with the unbeliveably awesome Xpipe installed. Chuck (ny1max) has installed his with the stock cans (for now). Mine is sitting in the box on the floor (for now) and I plan on keeping the stock cans. All I can say is WOW, "IT'S ALIVE"! Mike, my hat goes off to you the craftsmanship is stellar to say the least! At idle it sounds as Chuck said, "throaty" (this is with it still on the lift mind you) but twisting the throttle was sweet music to my ears! Once this puppies taking air in, well, true V4 power will be heard. No more Singer sewing machine. I am in for a few sleepless nights I'm sure till the weather breaks but once Chuck (the truely awesome Vmaxxer that he is) helps me get my pipe installed, I promise video to you all of TWIN XPIPES side by side! Thanks again Chuck for all you have taught me and helped me with in such a short time. And Mike, LOL You da Man!

Rider,
I am not sure how much you want to know about the X-Pipe modification before deciding what to do. I think that a well informed consumer is a good thing for both - consumer and manufacturer. I thought about your question a little more and here is where Mike's ingenuity comes in. Lets look back at Oliver's chart on the home page. The three curves are different from each other. However notice that the Brown line is a little more different than the Blue and Pink line. The Pink curve looks smoother in the mid range from 3,500 to almost 10,000 than the other 2 lines, and the brown line has a less steep slope from 0 to 3,500 RPM. The effect you see is in part due to Yamaha's Exhaust Ultimate Power Valve (EXUP)operation. By artificially controlling atmospheric pressure in th exhaust system the EXUP system in conjunction with the ECU produces a smooth power delivery across the power band. The X-Pipe creates a constant atmospheric pressure condition that is optimal at mid-range BUT rich at high end and lean in the very low end. This is caused by the fact that the X-Pipe is not a variable atmospheric control system like the butterfly set up in the EXUP system. Here is where the fuel mapping comes in play. With a customized fuel mapping you can adjust fuel delivery in the mid-range and at these extremes places in the power curve thus compensating for the X-Pipe effect at low and high end places. Regardless of the set-up (with or without fuel management) Mike's set up is a good enhancement for the mid range riding. AND as you can see from Oliver's charts the fluctuation in performance (indicated by the ups and downs of the curve at any given point) is not bad at all. Hope this helps.
