TOPIC: Question about Evoluzione Air Filter? YCCT Stacks?

Question about Evoluzione Air Filter? YCCT Stacks? 3 years 11 months ago #1

It seems as if the Evoluzione air filter may rub against the YCCT stacks when mounted as shown in the instructions. Is this why it is recommended to remove the stacks? Is there a performance advantage to removing the stacks as well? I'd rather keep them on, but I also don't want anything rubbing against the stacks. Is there a different way to mount the air filter? If I mount it in the opposite direction, it seems as if it's possible the filter could pop out at high speeds as there's only the rubber surrounds holding it in place. Some advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

the filter does come close to the stacks (at the lifted/high rpm position) but does have clearance.

You won't find a better fitting filter. Mine fits real snug & no clamp is needed.

Removing those stacks is only advantageous at the drags where you're at wide open throttle all the time. For riding on the street, I think you'll find it preferable to leave the stacks alone. You get a little better torque on the bottom end.

Re:Question about Evoluzione Air Filter? YCCT Stacks? 3 years 11 months ago #7

Thanks B_M. That's what I was thinking, but it's recommended to remove the stacks in the directions for installing this filter. I would much rather leave it alone as well. Man, it sure looks close to those stacks...I guess I'll just have to take everyone's word for it... Makes me nervous though! You can mount the filter on the opposite side and let the cover hold it on too, but that seems to impede upon the flow because it sticks out an inch or so further than it would if mounted how the instructions indicate. I don't know...I guess I'll figure it out tomorrow. I'm too damn tired to keep thinking tonight. Later!

we actually state in our instructions "though not required, we recommend removing the upper intake funnels for best performance."

we have found that some people get hung up on numbers and based on that, removing the funnels does give better ultimate performance (such as on a dyno or the drag strip). we have been crucified over our filter in the airflow bench tests (even though the dyno results proved otherwise) so it seems like we must always walk a fine line with regards to talking about performance improvements (in the past it has been to our disadvantage to promote better midrange/drivabilty at the expense of peak dyno numbers).

but, having said all of this, in day-to-day street based riding, midrange torque is always more important than peak rpm horsepower. so, if you spend most of your riding time below 7k rpm, keep the ycci funnels in.

hope this helps.

Ken, I'd like to thank you for always being the best answer guy on the forum. You always have exellent answers based on facts and not fiction, detail is always spot on with you. Your filter does as you said bottom and mid and the protection level Thats what I want also. I ride my bike on the street red light to red light some high speed freeway free for alls and my dyno sheets speak for them selves. Thanks once again and glad you got the pcv up date, did they take the pass word protection out of the one they sent you? Ride safe WFO

Thanks Ken. I'll keep the stacks on. I appreciate the help out.
