After slipping the brand new clutch earlier today on the dyno under full load at 7000 rpm (torque peak) I finally installed the long contemplated clutch upgrade.
Like some of us have done for years on Warriors, Roadliners, Raiders, V-Maxes and other bikes, the solution is super simple: Get an extra stock clutch spring and double up the springs. Installed it tonight and am surprised how manageable the clutch pull still is. Yes it is harder, but take offs are now almost unreal. Did not realize how much slippage the stock clutch has when running extreme high horsepower and torque mods. I took some pics, although the mod is pretty self explaining and as cheap as it gets. We shall see what that means to slip on the dyno. Ride safe! Bad_Max already started an explanation of this before I posted this. Great bang for the buck upgrade. I'm sure the hydralic clutch keeps the lever pull manageable.

Especially on down shifting into corners..............I like the idea for take offs but concerned on the possible enhanced rear wheel lock-up. Any thoughts or testing done? Cheers, Tadster |

Good point. I would assume that the slipper clutch action WILL be impacted by this upgrade. Have only put some 20 miles on it since the change and not really focused on trying it out under spirited riding with frequent downshifts.

I haven't noticed any difference & I did try it out in some long sweeping turns. Downshifts were about the same & didn't notice any tightening of slipper.

Shouldnt have no influence on the slipper at all if its desighned like Suzukis.

Is this the exact fix Bad_Max did?
And I'm wondering if it quieted down the clutch to any degree? At 1000 miles I dumped the clutch a few times on a rolling start to see what all the hype was about. Had some slippage (at the rear wheel). Mrs. was riding along on her bike. Later I stated, I hope I wasn't too hard on it, she said "You wasn't hard enough on it, that bike can take it." Keep up the good ideas guys. I'm making a list and checking it twice and gonna make mods both naughty and nice! |
