Ive done the clutch mod on other bikes and its nice but never really had anything to great to say about it.
Freeking "WOW" It took all of 15 minutes to do. I warmed it up and stalled it..lol.. Then took it out again. The clutch feel is shorter for engagement and I moved the levor from 2 to 3 for feel. Burnouts with No clutch and if your not spinning your wheeling 2009 Vmax double Up clutch spring Mod. Part numbers No 32 GASKET 2S3-15453-00-00 Spring 5yu-16334-00 Step 1. Remove bolts from Clutch cover. They are not all the same size so pattern them on the floor. Remove cover. NO OIL WILL LEAK!!!! Step 2. Remove bolts holding spring. All the same size Step 3. Add second spring and reverse process. 5.8FTtq on all Bolts inside clutch Basket. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN clutch basket bolts!!!! Becareful. This will be a NOTICIBLE change in your launch. I stalled the first time and have been riding 25+ years and this was my first stall on the vmax.. Enjoy |

How much did you pay for the spring? I checked the local Yamaha dealer and they said $55, I thought I read on the forum where someone had bought it for $42. Thats $13 more towards the big air!

What potential damage can be done to the clutch plates with this mod? Will they wear out quicker; void your warrantee? Just asking......Being a larger rider, this sounds like a great mod as long as it doesn't damage anything...........

Theohiomike,
Great write-up.......You gave the torque numbers for the clutch spring bolts but what was the torque number for the outer cover bolts? Thanks, Tadster |

Cheap and easy mod. Everytime you shift hard you'd better hang on tight. It's a very noticable difference. Clutch lever feel is better too.
If you leave it on the side stand little or no oil should come out. |
