TOPIC: 2011 Ducati Diavel Breaks Cover at EICMA

Re: 2011 Ducati Diavel Breaks Cover at EICMA 2 years 6 months ago #21

From it's beginning, you could tell it was almost like Ducati was desperate to gain some market share of the Vmax, and in doing so, POSSIBLY create a new market niche for themselves. Can't blame em for trying, but I agree, more thought & preparation should have gone into it. It took Yamaha almost 10 years to get the Vmax right..

I like it and if there were no such thing as a vmax it would be my number one choice. I wish our bike was anywhere near 450 pounds.

I like it too, but I am not comparing it to the Max.
It's defenetly a different type of bike and I am sure it will be an awesome machine to own and be better suited to some riding conditions than the max.

But in reality if I was to get an additional bike it would probably be something aimed at touring. Maybe not a VFR or a Goldwing, but something that is a mix between a sports bike and a touring bike. I think the new Multistrada is just the ticket :winkwink:

But since I barely have enough time to ride one bike, two would truly be a waste. But one can dream. Sorry for going off topic

Kris,

When I bought my Second Max, I never thought about having enough time to ride both.

Of coarse I had some Mental Issues I was trying to wrap my brain around.

However, Regardless of Alter and Sparky, It has worked out for the Best !

Time is precious--Yes. So the time you get to ride is precious.

Why be one dimensional ? When you can be two dimensional !

Variety is the Spice of Life !

Having a choice of bikes to ride is great !

I consider myself fortunate !

Besides, You can share with friends and go riding together.(If your lucky enough to have a underprivledged friend or friends who can ride.)

Plus the time you ride makes them both last twice as long !

I cannot believe the negativism on this new model.
Personally, I think the single sided swing arm is the ultimate in sexy.
There is something absolutely adorable about the sound of a Ducati, however; one must overlook the cheesy sound of that disgusting clutch.
The rear brake is all the can do when you consider the single side swing arm with the stacked chain & brake to one side – is there really an engineering alternative?
The exhaust cans look totally disgusting IMO, but the rest looks attractive to me.

Best Regards, Jack

Well, according to the Duc's Specs Sheet, the Clutch is a wet Clutch, meaning there's not more Clutch Noise than on the Max.

They already have two extra Exhaust Systems listed in their Accessories, so that's covered too.

I like most of it. The Look is not not my fav, especially the front "Hood", but that can be changed... Technically, there are a Lot of nice Goodies on it, more than the Max has to offer.

What about the Rear Brake ?

Rear Brake appears to be a 2-pot floating Caliper on a 260 mm Disc. Seems adequate for me. You kmow, those lighter Bikes already are prone to make up a good Stoppie Machine with newer Brake Technology and 320mm Rotors, so it doesn't make Sense for these to go bigger on the rear. It would just give the Slipper Clutch more Work to deal with.
