I'm thinking about it...however the last weekend of the event is considered the best time to go (per locals out my way) so if I do, I'm shooting for something in the 10th thru 12th dates....if I can get my chit ready....
Mr.M, are you riding from NYC or pulling a wheeled tongue crate? ---P/D |

Was up there yesterday for a one day runabout with a Victory friend.
We left Cheyenne, Wyoming a little after 6am and had lunch at One-Eyed Jack's before noon. I ran out of gas just 2 blocks before a gas station in New Castle, WY I'd last topped off just past Glendo and we were dogging it along the state highway open roads....got brave and decided not to top off in Lusk, WY.....was getting 30 to 34 mpg Found those open roads between Lusk and Newcastle...too hard to resist, so I played with the top end, was able to squeak out a 180mph (Speedometer ~ 8 or 9% off) without any po-po-cident. Suppose that lead to the 2 block walk/push Found some nice twisty-ish roads on 85 through to Deadwood and on to Sturgis. Also found the classic HD "gang" leather vest wieghed down by all them pins freedom patches, consisting of about 2 dozen bikes riding 35-40 and hogging the lanes as if they own the road (even the passing lanes?)....so it pissed me off, don't care if I pissed them off, as I passed in and through them....idiots! Had a steak/tater dinner in Deadwood (nice place...gotta look this over more seriously next year) and got back on the road by 7pm Hit a monster lightening storm with driving rain and hail on the return trip....w/ rain gear on we pushed on through.....it was a blast 80-ish in the rain, but we found Lusk and a scenic lightening show as our reward. It was a good jaunt of a day....heading to Longmount, CO today for a Calendar Babe bike gathering (free pulled pork is what they've claimed) ----PeaDawg |

Going through my Contour video..... .....Still curious why this trooper did not give pursuit, We had been booging down the road, just flagged by a fellow biker with hand signals, to slow way down. was as hard on the brakes as I could without being obvious...the trooper slowed to the side.... ...figured it was a done deal....but he never turned around we were just a few miles from the border...maybe that was his thought? |

Your running out of fuel is the exact reason I did not take my V-Max. I am lucky to get 25-27 miles to a gallon. I was on 85 a couple of times, you may have past me? Stayed in Deadwood at the Hampton Inn, great place. Deadwood had two great restaurants, the Mineral Palace and the Cheyenne Social Club. Also a great Cigar Lounge with live Blues, Called the Deadwood Cigar Company. I ran into several groups of HD riders that "Hogged" the road. Slow down for the turns, speed up on the straights and block the left lane. I sliced and diced several of them. I am a firm believer that not everyone should own a motorcycle and especially riding it on some challenging roads in SD. Friday Deadwood had a Hale storm, lots of it. They had to use shovels and brooms to remove it. Luckily I was in Sturgis under a gas station overhang and didn't get wet. Saw Jackyl Thursday Night at the Full Throttle and Slash Friday Night at the Buffalo Chip. The Jackyl Show was out of control, I had seats on the stage and it was a made house. Jesse James Dupree is some performer, out of his mind. Slash was great too. . .but I left early. It started to rain and the ride back up the mountain to Deadwood is no fun at night in the rain. I did all the rides. . . Custer State park, Needles road, Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Nemo road, Hulett, Devils Tower and a few others I can remember. It was Hot as hell in the early part of the week then cooled off. Glade I brought my rain gear because I used it several times. I will post some pictures when I get a chance. Bob |
