Thanks B_M, makes me feel better that I am not the only one to be "Fumble Handed" I did realize that I could go to the trouble of separating the fender halves but frankly I didn't want to go to the trouble, I have already ordered the replacement part now for only $2.90 and the guy is sending it to me tomorrow, so problem is solved. You were right, the bags are small but once you get them mounted they really look good on the bike .... why in the hell did they go with zippers to latch the bag together is beyond me??? Have you had a chance to mount the new Metszler front tire that you got yet???
Thanks, Rick Bad_Max wrote: Jack the bike up in the air, and loosen & remove the plastic pop out rivets that attach the inner fender to the outer at the very bottom front of the fender (near exhaust/catalytic canister). Seperate the 2 with a flat blade screwdriver by prying a bit and the piece will fall out on the ground. I too dropped a bolt there |

Yes, when I get the bike back Thursday it will have the new Metzler ME880 to match the rear. I'll post if there's any difference in handling, after I run thru some of my favorite long sweepers here

i don't want to burst your bubble but the "wellnut" (trade name) is installed from the back side of the fender. so even if you get a new one, you need to remove the fender to reinstall it.

Help, I was installing the Star VMax Saddlebags on my new bike which involved taking the rear fender stiffner placque off the rear fender to expose the 2 mounting holes to mount the bags onto with their mounting kit. They supplied 4 little plastic covers to pop into the original bolt holes that held on the fender placque; however, when I was pushing the last plastic plug into the bolt hole, the rubber/plastic threaded fender plug that is mounted into the rear fender popped out and fell inside the rear fender. I do not want to take apart my fender to simply get at this threaded fender plug, so I am trying to find out what the part number is to order another one. The actual hole in the fender is much larger without the threaded spacer plug (.5 to .75 inch diameter) and it looks like crap because you can see it over the newly installed saddlebags. I am not very mechanically inclined but does anyone know the part-number for this plastic threaded spacer for the rear fender placque fastner hole?? Not even sure that I am describing it correctly.... Rick I don't if you can read this, but here it is...let me know and I can PM you... |
