just wanted to touch base with you guys and gals on the topic of when to do the oil changes what kil or miles is a good to change on. To keep things in good running order the book says 1000 first and 7000 kil for second. Is the second change a bit too long or not

You can't hurt the bike by changing oil too often, only your wallet.

In miles: 300, 600, 1000 w/ synthetic. Rear at 1000. Just a trace of babbitt in the oils.

First change at 700 miles, second change at 1500... Because the oil gets contaminated by both the clutch and tranny, i wouldnt go over 2500 or 3k miles...
Also changed out the engine oil drain plug with a rear gear oil plug with a magnet in it... Engine and Tranny are the same size drain bolt and can be swapped.. You wouldnt believe the amount of ferrous fuzz that came off that magnetic plug during the second oil change... Twice as much as what came off the rear gear oil drain bolt magnet. Good idea to get it out, since the oil filter is only a 10 micron, and these particles were easily 3 to 5 micron sparkles in the oil. Looks like glitter floating in the oil when the sun hits it. Changing over to Amsoil filters on next change as they are 5 micron. VS the Yamaha filter @ 10. |
