Here's our oil pump. Abnormal shaft wear can cause the pin (4) to shear, resulting in pump failure.

Just called my dealer in indianapolis. He told me they havent received any info on it. So hopefully the recall will come just in time for my 600 mile service.

Hmm - So guessing an oil change then too right? Should I put off my 2nd oil change. I have Amsoil (in at 700 miles) and 4500 miles now. Wonder how much $$$ to do the 240 install work at the same time.

Yamaha can't be that concerned about failures. They just hosted a Vmax Drag event in Holland 2 days ago..

Bob, you are so right. Lots of Dutch riders tried the bike out. Those Vmaxes really were 'abused' big time!: deep into the red zone, screaming tires, bad clutching, etc, etc. And all reached the finish line safe & sound (aaahhhmmm.... :screen: ). And all 4 Vmaxes still worked like a charm at the end of the day.

I can understand the Yamaha guys not saying anything about a recall (it was a promotional event, of course). But even so, if there is something that needs to be fixed to get on the safe side of things, we have a very good dealer.

I've been riding this afternoon. If satellites would have tracked me I would have lost my license for sure a hundred times over. Man oh man, can this machine turn you into a hooligan real quick :steam: !!

Not to be labelled the puss of the group, but I don't plan on beating the crap out of mine until its fixed. Though the failures are not common or imminent, if that should happen while you are leaned into a turn, if the motor locks up, the back wheel will lock up without notice (unless you noticed your motor making a hell of a lot of noise with no oil pressure just before that and you wisely shut it down).

Leaning over + locked up rear wheel = unwelcomed surprise.

I best start thinking about a spare....'cause the garage is no place for a VMAX when you have only one.

Give me the on ramp and update my AAA cause the road is calling....

If recalled...it sounds like a winter job to me :lolipop:

Doc, I'm not a hooligan, that Vmax TURNS me into a hooligan, yeah!

If we're caught out by the cops we'll blame Yamaha, okay? :winkwink:
