You must compare apples to apples before you can make any claims.

He had a Wideband O2 issue to take care of before they could do testing. So he basically gave you a number that was after install on stock ECU. Hopefully there will be numbers to compare to soon but they should both be very close. |

obviously its not apples to apples i know its 2 different systems and im not making any claims , it just seems blueta71's x-pipe is making more power than UFO's full race system , im just asking why???? im really confused and want some opinions as to why.
Thnx TB |

The DragStarr with Max Tuner, and no air filter made 197.3 RWHP, but the X Pipe is impressive

I know the cat sass had no map adjustments yet , but do you think a map tune is gonna pick it up another 15-20 HP??
Bad_Max , thats what i mean...the Full race Dragstarr made 197 with tuning and the simple x-pipe is making 194.75 with tuning....Im sorry but somethings not adding up. Im not trying to start a pissin match to which is better because I applaud both UFO and blueta71 for steppin up and taking on these projects.....But I've been around the block on building and tuning race engines for alot of years, I have my own dyno and have a long list of accomplishments in my racing over the years , Im not trying to brag or honk my horn by no means , just saying from my experience that x-pipe tho its leaps and bounds better than stock and its creator has alot to be proud of but it should not be making as much power as the other 2 pipes....again something is not adding up. Or maybe everything that i've learned over the years is all wrong??? I'd sure like to see FX get his hands on both UFO pipes and the UFO tuner to test hisself. TB |

This is no pissin match you are just looking for answers..no biggie. You have to understand though. All these parts coming out are only a few weeks old. It would be nice to get a side by side run on the same dyno, same bike and similar weather conditions to be fair. Its just a matter of time. I myself plan to wait a few months before making my decision on what performance mods to get. I am in the same boat as you. I want a fair test of all in simlar conditions before drawing conclusions. |

Guys,
A full system with a perfect fuel map will beat the X-Pipe I am sure. I have several things coming from vendors for testing. Hopefully I will get my hands on the UFO system soon. Comparing it on the same dyno is the only way to get apples to apples numbers. I am sure that the full system once the fueling issues with the current tests have been taken care of can gain a few more horses. I personally have experience with one fuel controller technology and that's why I went with it. No burning of O2 sensors or other similar issues. 1-2h of some tuning and you have a close to perfect fuel map if you don't have to fight problems. If anything I would expect UFO, Akrapovic and folks like Yoshimura to build the best performance setups. A word of caution on hopes that there will be more than a 5 rwhps difference. Look at any sport bike out there and you will see that the difference in power between various systems is 2-5 rwhps at the very best. Yes you will get something that runs really bad, but there is little magic that can be done on the good side. Yamaha's exhaust work of the last several years has been very good. In fact there are Star Motorcycles (like the Roadliner & Co) where none of the aftermarket exhausts beats its top horsepower numbers once you run a good big air-kit and a custom fuel map. Still - everybody runs them. I have a set of Cobras on mine that makes 2hps less than what the stock pipe would do but I love the looks and the sound. I also posted initial dyno numbers of the X-Pipe that showed a +7hps gain over stock down low, +6hps around 7500 and +5hps at peak - w/o a custom fuel map and with stock air filter in place. Just to clarify: I am not involved in building the X-Pipe. Mike sent me a prototype to test it and write about it. I have the same standing offer out there with all vendors that make products for the VMax. There is a Big Air Kit on the way for testing too. If anybody is in the area, they are very welcome to come to the dyno shop and whiteness the testing. fxstein |
