TOPIC: Fork Replacement - Different Diameters

Fork Replacement - Different Diameters 2 years, 6 months ago #1

I bought a used set of forks for $50, but after getting them home, I realized that they are a larger diameter than the ones on my '85 V-Max. What year did they change to bigger forks and since I have the upper and lower clamps, could I just replace all of it? is the head of the frame different? Has anyone done this?

Thanks in advance for any help. P.S. - I won't actually be doing the work on my bike for a long time... higher priorities.

The 43mm Forks came up in 1993. They came along with 4-Piston Brake Calipers(different Mounting Distance, bigger Rotors (298mm instead of 282mm) and a different Fender Bracket, but lost the Air Connector underneath the upper Fork Yoke.

If you have those Parts also, is's a direct Swap. Not sure about the Collar on the right at Wheel Axle. You might check this in the Parts Catalog. Steering Head, Bearings and such stayed the same.
