TOPIC: Courtesy Blessing Request

I found a "look" for my gen 1 that I would like to run by Cruise. I found this picture in Fatass's thread. The yellow gen 1 behind Fatass. Im thinking about something along those lines. But I dont want to be "copying" the whole Roberts retro look that Randy so brilliantly captured with his bike. I know its kinda weird asking for "permission" for a paint job. And like I said it will be more like the picture of the gen 1. More lineal and factory looking then the awesome graphics paint on ICONIC. So what do you think Randy? Would you mind another Roberts tribute bike in the hizzie?

Heh, I just thought about it... It will be a legend (gen 1) tribute to the legend (Roberts).

The only thing better than doing that paint would be to get yours and Randy's bikes side by side for a photo shoot when its done.

Randy is at Deal's Gap till Thursday Steve. I think your bike will look terrific in Valencia stripes. I am getting ready to lay out the RD400 in a all black and white Valencia scheme,no yellow.
I have read and heard this paint theme called:chain-block pattern, block pattern, strobe line, Kenny Roberts stripes, Valencia stripes, hurricane stripes, Yamaha racing stripes. Whatever the name, it’s an attractive paint theme.
As far as "copying" the bike you pictured or Cruises bike, look at it as admiring and appreciating a good idea and then through your efforts and money making it happen for you.
Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
And on top of it all the 3,000 mile rule is in effect here.
But run it by Cruise ; if he says "NO" we'll just banish him

Randy is one of the coolest people I have ever met. They just don't make to many like him.. His bike is one of a kind and I am sure yours will be too. If I could speak for him this very second it would be "Make it your own" There is so much detail to Randys bike other than paint that the pics do it no justice. NO JUSTICE!!! I can't believe it would be a copy. I say go for it.

This is my next Paint job... Lighting Mcqween

Steve, you are kidding, right?

These stripes have been around for so long, nobody is copying nobody - other than everybody copying a Yamaha design team from back then.

Randy might get angry if you really ask that question...

I knew/said it was kinda weird to ask. But for some reason I thought it would be respectful to run it by him. I know it is a Yamaha design AND Im planning on a totally different layout. But, you have to admit... Randy took the whole "chain-block pattern, block pattern, strobe line, Kenny Roberts stripes, Valencia stripes, hurricane stripes, Yamaha racing stripes. Whatever the name" concept and "Made it his own". Thats putting it mildly, He made it his BITCH!!! I really cant imagine him getting mad about me asking his thoughts on it. BTW... I also think it would be great if I could run it by the person in the picture of the gen 1 too. I have NO idea how to do that. AND now you have me scared to because I dont want to have 2 people "angry" at me.
