Yeah, I wouldn't recommend ever giving it gas while starting....that can foul the plugs and should not be necessary.
Just hit the starter button, keep it depressed until it starts. This engine needs a few more revolutions more than what you may be used to, (like a Gen 1 for instance) for what ever reason. It will not hurt the starter to let it spin a few seconds, it's better than engaging and disengaging it a few times IMO. Mark |

I see where you've already disconnected the ex-up valve.. Not too sure how wise that is until broken in either.. Reinstalled the ex-up cables. After a ride today I did my routine shut Max off, opened building doors, put helmet and gloves away. Turned ignition on, pushed the button and Max started with no issues. Doug |

Yeah, the exup valve is almost completely closed at idle and it's that way for a reason

I have the same problem on occasion. Only have 2000 miles on mine. My 05 Hayabusa had the same problem as well, only worse. Until around 3000 miles, it would occasionally die even when rolling, without warning, and would occasionally pop out of first or second gear into a false neutral. It eventually stopped doing all of that with no corrective measures having been taken and became completely reliable. So, I'm thinking maybe Bad Max is right. Give it some time.

He Max lover .
Normally stay of the gas with a injection system , all is electronicly arranged. there is something wrong if he does not start imediayly . I am a car guy but the pricipal is the same . Don,t know if it has an accamulator to hold the pressure when you shut it of. Curious what the problem is? Gr Lightworker/ |

I think the difference is that this vmax has a built in compression release in the camshaft that lowers the compression during starting. That is so the starter dosen't have such a hard time turning over the engine. It is my belkief that this it why the engine has to turn a few extra revolutions befor starting. I believe it uses cetrifigal force.
