The stock muffler enters in one pipe then y's out into two pipes. From the Y back I increased those pipes to a 1.3" ID - 1.5" OD pipe. I repacked the muffler with stainless steel wool before putting it back together. I have the X pipe so my cat is gone. The sound is amazing, not too loud not to quiet, and has held together good, no cracking. This is not my original idea. I sure I read it on this forum but I can not find that post. It was a couple of years ago. I am presently installing the muffler tips from Python Motorsports. I am having the ID of the muffler tip machined open so they will fit over the small amount of pipe that extend out of the muffler shell. This might work for you. I also love the look of the stock mufflers.

:yeah: thats what I am talking about...I am thinking making them the size of the piece that goes onto the back of the mufflers..

Hi AllenZ,

Did this give you more 'bass' over stock?
Any disadvantages you found by opening them up?

I too have xpipe with stock cans but looking for a little more bass

exhaustbillettips1.jpg

Increasing the exhaust diameter gives you a much deeper tone and will make it louder. The sound is like a deep base mussel car. That tinny sound is gone. The only disadvantage would be if you have or intend on adding one of the muffler tip. I purchased the exhaust tips from Python Motorsports that are in the picture. I have to get the inside diameter machined out because they do not slip over the larger exhaust pipe that extends past the back of the muffler cover. That's not even a big deal for any machine shop, I thought I should just mention it. With over 1,000 miles on this exhaust I can't see any disadvantages.

Thanks Allen,

When you say 'from the Y back', I take it you left the Y intact with no modification to it from stock?
Is the Y now the same i.d. as the inlet and outlets?

Ypipe.JPG

Yes the y is not changed. From the Y back I cut off the existing pipe then increased the size to 1.3" ID 1.5" OD.

thanks for the input, I was thinking of cutting before the Y and cutting into the shape of a Y hoping for better air flow..
