With over 1,000 miles on this exhaust I can't see any disadvantages. love the muffler tips, can you tell me what the inside diameter of the tips before you machined them? |

My name is Helen, I got my 1st bike in 1973 it was a 650 Yamaha in 1974 I had 2 650 Yamaha's I then got a 850 Yamaha and was the 1st in New Zealand to get the 1100 Yamaha.I have a 2005 xjr1300

My exhaust tip are at the machine shop now. From memory I think the original ID of the exhaust tips were 1.35" to 1.4". But now my pipe that extends a little past the end of the exhaust cap is 1.5". The exhaust tips have no trouble on the stock exhaust size. I am only having the machine shop bore the inlet 1/3 of an inch deep on the inlet side to 1.6" so I can measure the outlet of the tip when I get it back if you need an exact size. One note is that they seem to very well made from billet aluminum.

I had a local motorcycle shop do this mod so they supplied the pipe. The shop said they had a hard time welding the pipes together as they used titanium welding rod. They probuble were not use to working with this material, but all turned out good. You stated you are going to use a pipe just less that 2" in diamiter. If you go any larger then 1.5" OD you will have to also open up the end cap that the exhaust pipes extend through at the back of the muffler. I would not think that going any larger than 1.3" ID with a 1.5" OD will be of any real performance benefit. As stated earlier the stock mufflers are pretty free flowing. Plus you will be still feeding the inlet of the muffler at the stock size and the Y will be the stock size. Now I just measured the pipe that goes into the muffler inlet on my old cat. Those measures 1.8" so the ID of the muffler inlet must be 1.8" ID. Yamaha must figure that since one larger inlet was feeding into two smaller outlets there would be minimum flow restrictions. I increased the pipe from the Y back more for a sound benefit than a performance benefit. The sound is much deeper and quite a bit louder. My thoughts are louder would equal greater flow. Do you think you guy could make two more but at 1.8" ID as to get someone to weld titanium in my city,well I can't find anyone yet..or to puy the pipe from him. Does your new ones have the holes in the pipe as I have been told this is important. Also could you give me a price. |

Hi Helen
I called the shop that did the work on my muffler. I explained the situation to him and sadly he said that he is overwhelmed with work at this time and he has gotten burned in the past not receiving his money with overseas transactions. He told me in no way will he do any transactions out side of the US. I know it has become a world wide economy and there should not be a problem but in his defense this is a small 2 man shop that has more work than it can handle with cash customers. He said the only reason he did my mufflers was because I was getting allot of other work done. He said it's not worth it to do the mufflers alone or even run down the pipes and ship them out when he is so busy. Sorry about that but I did try. To give you an example I had him make me up a set of custom handle bar risers to bring my riding position up and back. When I designed these risers I had them too far back so this past winter I had him machine a new set that were not so aggressive. It took 5 months and I just got them back. His workmanship is great but when you are good your are usually very busy. |

Did you see my exhaust cans Helen? It cracked on both of them @ the same time too.. Had mine on a dyno getting it tuned.
