I'm feeling your pain. (sort of) I'm 52, no surgeries but do worry about the weight of this beast sometimes when my back acts up. This is the deathnail for a lot of riders. I bought my 2005 Max from a guy who couldn't hold it up anymore back in 06'. He dropped it twice and said that was it. He only had 500 miles on it before he let it go and at a big loss. I hate to say it but there's always the 3-wheelers out there which I know that some buy for that reason. Good Luck.

I got my hip replacement at 46 years of age during the month of February. I wore mine out the natural way - too much running/sports stuff -vs- car accident or anything like that. The first few days were a beeotch, but then it all started to come together for me. I don't remember exactly how long I was off the seat of my Max, but it wasn't too long. If I remember correctly, Feb that year was kinda cold here and therefore not a problem not being able to ride.
I'd guess I was back in the saddle before the end of March for sure. Probably short jaunts much before that just to prove what a stud I am to the wife. My hip replacement is a "Birmingham Hip Resurfacing System (more for athletic types). More info on this type surgery at birminghamhipresurfacing.com. The scar is longer than a full hip replacement, but I got to keep more original bone. Plus, the ball/socket combo is over twice the size of a normal full hip replacment proceedure for older peeps. |

In talking with several people they say titanium is the only metal that your flesh will adhere to. I had titanium post put in my mouth for a dental implant and the Dr. said also that titanium was the only metal that my flesh would adhere to.

Hang in there Scoop,
I ride with a guy who is 80 years old who had hip replacement a couple of years ago. I don’t remember exactly how long he was off his bike but I think it was like six months. Most important is to keep a positive mental attitude. Wishing you a very speedy recovery! Larry |

Since your not that far from Chicago you might want to investigate going to Dr. Berger at Rush Hospital. He does non invasive surgeries on hips and knees. Small scar and everything he does is supposed to last a lifetime. Work with a guy that had his knee done by him and he was running up the stairs at work in three weeks. I was amazed
(mainly because I need one too.) I think it is known as the Glimmer Method or something like that. Check him out on the internet. Hes an orthopedic surgeon with a mechanical engineering degree. He designs and produces all his own appliances. At least check it out........ |
