My only purpose in posting this is to hopefully save someone else the aggravation that I've gone through. A couple of weeks ago I decided to buy a set of ASV clutch and brake levers. The best price I found was from MotoMummy.com.
They didn't show the Vmax levers on their website so I emailed them and asked if they carried them. The guy that answered said that they're not available. I emailed back and told him that they were and sent him a couple of links (including a link to Yamaha's site) showing that they were in fact available. After a couple of days they responded that they could get them and they put them on their website to be ordered, which I did immediately. I didn't hear from them for a week or so, so I emailed them and I heard back after a day from another person who said "Yes, we have your order but we can't ship it because your shipping information is different from your billing information and it need to be an approved shipping address by your credit card company." I called the credit card company and verified that my shipping address (my summer home) was already an approved shipping address. I then emailed them back and told them so. After another day I hadn't heard anything back so I emailed them again and asked if my order had been shipped. After 4 or 5 hours they emailed back "sorry we can't verify your shipping address. Would you like us to ship to your billing address?" I have been buying "stuff" on the Internet for many years. I have NEVER had this type of trouble with ANY online vendor, and I have purchased MANY items and had them shipped to an alternate address that was pre-approved by my credit card company. It amazes me how arrogant and stupid some companies can be, especially given today's economic climate. I can fully understand being cautious (I'm a business owner myself) but when you establish policies that prohibit you from doing business with good customers that's just plain DUMB! Be forewarded it you try to do business with MotoMummy and your shipping address is different than your billing address you may be in for a LOT of aggravation and you may decide, as I have, it may be worthwhile to simply take your business to someone who has more consumer friendly business practices. Best, Steve |

sjarrell,
Sorry you had a bad experience with MotoMummy.com. I have ordered several items without issue, maybe it is because they're in Austin TX and I'm in Ft. Worth TX. I got the Pazzo levers for my Vmax as well as my FJR and some other items. Luckily my shipping and billing address are the same. The Pazzo's look great and I even got free grips and a koose. |

I agree with Max Warrior, I ordered my levers from them without any issues, got them extremely fast and had a koozie thrown in as an added bonus as well. I think that if you give them another try, you might have better luck. Everyone is entitled to a hiccup now and then. When you think of all the business that they do and the scammers out there that try to get over on companies, well, it's a thing that every once in awhile, you have to put up with a bit more security issues. Can't really blame a company for trying to protect itself.

Can't really blame a company for trying to protect itself. As I communicated directly with the owner of MotoMummy, my real problem with them wasn't that there was a problem. I own an Internet based company so I'm well aware of the issues involved. My issue was with the way they handled the problem. In my opinion, when there is a problem you see if a company is truly customer oriented or not. My main issues were: 1. I've used this credit card on MANY e-commerce sites including many motorcycle parts sites (all of the major ones) without a single problem... ever. My alternate shipping address is a pre-approved address with my credit card company. If other companies can find a way to verify a shipping address I'm at a loss as to why a particular vendor can't. 2. I had to continuously followup with them instead of them proactively contacting me. There's no excuse for that with any company, although it does seem to becoming more and more common unfortunately. 3. All it would have taken to avoided the issue in the first place was for them to reject the order if it had a different shipping address from the billing address. Alternately, just refuse that credit card and ask for another form of payment (i.e. PayPal.) I would be fine with that. I'm sure they're a fine company to do business with, and their prices are certainly reasonable. As I said in my original post just be forewarned that if your shipping address and your billing address don't match you will very likely be in for a lot more aggravation than you bargained for. Steve,
I feel your pain when it comes to online procurement. I hate to say it, but this isn't isloated to MotoMummy. This problem is common to many online merchants and one I am too familiar with. It is obvious they have been burned before where they lost time and money and therefore have made it a policy to save themselves a lot of trouble. Most of these merchants will have it on their site that this is the case before you purchase. It is certainly a PayPal policy. For somebody who claims to deal online a lot, you certainly expact a lot from these merchants. You should know better that they are in it to do business as quickly as possible. As soon as back office transaction processing is required this takes extra commitment from their part and this is something they didn't sign up for. There are a few exceptions, but they are far in between. So save your breath mate and simply get over it, as believe me thay are over it. I have had these conversations with many more established vendors such as Amazon and even though my alternate addresses are listed on my CC, "IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE". Not having a go at you, its just a reality of the online world Plus I haven't gone riding for a while and I am grumpy |

VmaxOZ wrote: Not having a go at you, its just a reality of the online world Plus I haven't gone riding for a while and I am grumpy I respectfully disagree. It's not a "reality of the online world", at least not in my experience. Vendors much larger than MotoMummy can and do verify and ship to alternate addresses on a very regular basis. In the last 2 weeks alone, I've ordered from a number of sites, including Amazon.com, PartShark.com, and MotoCycleSuperstore.com, all using the exact same credit card and the exact same alternate address. That's just in the last 2 weeks. Absolutely 0 problems. It's not normal for a vendor to reject an order just because the customer asks for it to be shipped to a pre-authorized ship-to address. It may be common practice if a vendor is asked to ship things overseas, but not here in the US, at least not in my experience. As I said previously, I make a LOT of purchases online, and at least half of them are shipped to my alternate address and I have never, I repeat never, had this issue with ANY vendor. Everyone can do what they wish, however I'll take my busines to the companies that don't make it hard for ME to business with them including PartShark, MotorCycleSuperstore, DennisKirk, Amazon, etc. As I said when I started the thread, the reason for posting it was to warn anyone with an ALTERNATE shipping address that MotoMummy probably isn't your best choice. Also, as I said, personally I don't think you as the customer should have to initiate the communication repeatedly when there is a problem with an order. That may be just a "reality of the online world" for some people, but it's not for me, at least not while there are still vendors who don't act that way. Forgive me... I'm a little grumpy tonight myself! Steve |
