Hopefully everyone will see that my problem isn't with the bike, although I am underwhelmed by some features it is a solid bike, but is instead with the screwy pricing structure Yamaha is using. The pricing seems to have no rhyme or reason, it just what they want. My thoughts are that Yamaha figures that Europeans will be rabid for the bike so jack up the price, Canadians are such a small market that they don't figure to sell too many here anyway, and the US is a primary market, but not as keen as the Euros, so they get the best pricing to draw folks in. Hopefully they won't pull the same BS that Ducati pulled when the Canadian dollar jumped up to par and bar Canadians from buying the US model claiming it didn't meet Canadian safety standards. Like I said in a previous post I can buy 2 B-Kings, @ $11,000 ea + taxes etc., for the price of 1 VMax and this is very disappointing. Cheers, Jim Rodgers VMOA# 4046 Western Ontario Chapter Leader Yamaha has done exactly as I predicted!! You can not buy a US bike without a US address and should you (like me) have that ability they void the warranty as soon as you register it in Canada. This is straight from a dealer, they have been instructed that this is the party line from Yamaha. According to my source they are registering the VIN's for each country and when it is entered into the system it tells them whether or not to do any warranty work. I very well may be able to make the ride on the 26th. Might also have a friend or two that would want to come along, especially if it means seeing the new MAX!
I thought about buying my '09 across the board but decided not to because of the warranty issue. Yamaha has a 3 year warranty offer for early deposits in Canada. I didn't want to loose that just in case, you know. In November last year I bought a '08 Yamaha Grizzly 700 ATV in the states saving @ 2K. I lost the warranty on that. |

If my local dealer can come across with a great price I might consider buying one. Otherwise I will just hold off for a while and pick up a used one down the road. My 97 will suffice for now.

Here is a qoute from my local dealer. Below MSRP even with their top package with fees included. After exhaustive research this is the best price I can find. Most dealers are playing on the fact that this is a limited production bike to keep the price up. If you have any questions please feel free to contact either myself or the dealer as they will be glad to assist.

My dealer in Northern Canada offered me a similar deal. No fees (OTD @ MSRP), 15% off accessories and first service free. No $500 discount though because of higher freight to the North.
Too similar to your local dealer to be a coincidence... cheers, Terry VMOA #69 thevmaxrider wrote: Here is a qoute from my local dealer. Below MSRP even with their top package with fees included. Hello,
I have been watching this site for some time. Thought I would join so I was able to post. Reguarding prices in Canada: I have been in contact with 3 dealers around my area. The best price I have out the door all fees and taxes in is $22,375.00. I do not think I would find another better deal. I have taken my time but am afraid if I do not act on that deal I may already be out of luck at one of the few for Canada. It is just a hard thing to convince myself that it is worth all that money. I was an original 1985 Vmax owner and picked it up new in April 1985. Sold it in 1991. Then I picked up a new 2005 in August 2004. Sold it in 2007 as I figured the last bike I would ever buy was about to be released. I used it to take nice long rides on sunny days. 30,000 Kms worth in 2.5 years. It is hard to believe that this new Vmax is finally here... but with all its technology will it be the ride that others will drool over like the original was? What to do. I do not know of anyone else in Canada that has ordered one yet. Maybe I better get to it soon... What do you think of that price? Any better? Too bad any that wanted a 2009 Vmax did not get together and go to one big dealer and see what they could get if all ordered at one time. Think that would bring the price down? You won't be the first to place an order if you do, and I really don't think you will regret it. I think you may regret it if you don't order it! I know of 2 on order in Canada so far. See the thread on "Any Orders In Canada Yet?" Let us know if you do decide to jump on one again. |
