TOPIC: rubber snakes....

rubber snakes.... 3 years 11 months ago #1

I came across this video (posted by Bad Max in another thread, thanks for that btw ;) )

Now, how do you ride the bike like that?
My monster has 195rwhp and 136ft.lbs but when I twist the throttle I never launch the bike as in this video
I tried to find the key handling from the video, but it's not that clear,.. I see the rider holding his clutch with a finger, however, it's not clear if he's pulling the clutch or not)

Can someone enlighten me how to do it?
Is this in 1st or 2nd gear?
Do you use front break to make the wheel spin?

Don't tell me it's just yanking the throttle wide open just like that as I do that all the time :P

Thanks for tips/tricks!

My daughter does burnouts with front brake applied. She's only been riding for two year. Then again it is on Honda 150 dirt bike, and in the dirt, so not the same consequences. Still, it's not all that hard. Just go easy on the front brake and let off if the back wheel starts side slipping too much. And if it does side slip too much, just do like this guy does.....

He slips the clutch, applies some front brake, and also upshifts into second, and even 3rd. Trick is keeping the rev's up, and ignoring every natural instinct that your body and mind are sending you, such as "DONT DO THAT"

Ive never done what that guy did, but he's probably a good 50lbs lighter than me too. Pulling off first to second gear burnout is pretty manageable on this bike, just dont close the throttle and slam it into second while its still spinning in first, the tire will keep spinning until you run out of road if you're putting your weight on the front end.

Practice...Practice...Practice....

Try doing burnouts as is your dragracing from a light.....you'll get used to the tire lighting up and going sideways (but with both feet on the ground).....It's all trottle control....

When you get comfortable, try it from a rolling start..take off slowly from a light...coordinate the clutch/trottle and hang on. :woohoo:

Rolling burnouts are a lot easier....my Max does em all the time, and my 550 Maxim does em too but I got to sit a bit high on the tank.

Good Luck.....by the sounds of the new Max, you should be able to do rolling burnouts without the clutch...

Not contradicting Bill, but if your new at this I would avoid the front brake application on a rolling start, could get you in trouble, from a standstill ...sure....

I have a Gen1 Max, and I weigh 230 fully geared, and I can get mine going from a rolling start through first and second, and on a very good day 3rd.....but I am running those very non-sticky Dunlop Qualifiers that you can light up in a sec.

You should be able to do that at least with the new Max.

Doing burn outs on this bike is way to easy dead stop domp the clutch instant smoke shift gears. Rolling burn out there shouldnt be any need for brake unless you want to slow it down, first to second should light right up give a little clutch and throttle can light them up into 4th gear on the hwy. If you are scared of the bike dont even try it you will end up the ditch or worse ther is always the chance of the tire hooking up and your going for a unexpected ride. When you get good at this step up to powerslides out of the corners way more fun but still more risk this bike is awsome for hitting the apex and letting the ass hang out.
Oh by the way dont bother going to the local biker bar on cruise night(loud harley crown) and trying the rolling burn out down the road they all think you drunk and dont know how to ride until they see the big black snake and rubber down the road my buddy didnt even realize I was doing a good burn out. The stock Flinstone tires dont squeal or leave alot of smoke and the exhaust isnt loud enough to hear too far away. Ty
