TOPIC: Vmax clutch installation 9300 miles & New Clutches

I did that on my GEN 1, used the XJS 1200 master cylinders; yes both, one for my double spring washer clutch and the brake master cylinder for the R1 callipers. Clutch was still harder than standard, but as B_M says, I grew accustomed and as for the brakes better than Brembos or any other mod at the time.

Just want to stress how easy adding a spring to your clutch is, This will ensure your Vmax clutch will last much longer. Anyone can do this. It's just removing the 8 allen head screws around the clutch cover & pull the cover off to reveal the 6, 10mm clutch cover bolts.

Then just pull the cover that the 6 bolts held on, and add a second diaphragm spring. Put the cover back on, and tighten/torque the 6 bolts evenly, working back & forth tightening them across from each other, till all are tight. Notice you can now see 2 spring plates installed. Total time to do this 1/2 hr. & cost is minimal.

I wish I had known how easy this double diaphragm mod is. I would have done it sooner & saved a clutch

So adding a second diaphragm spring is tha complete mod that you suggest? No other parts?

You will probably need a cover gasket. Before installing the new gasket coat a bit of Vaseline on it. It'll come right off next time you have the cover off.

Nope that's it, unless you want to change the cover gasket as maleko89 said The bike's a bear now

Do this mod & prevent your clutch plates from blueing. Extends your clutch life & gives the bite you want

You realize, you're comprimising the the Slipper Clutch when you double up the Clutch Spring ?

I'm not sure to which Point this will move, but be ensured, the Slipper Clutch will open up later than with one Stock Spring. Maybe a Lot later, maybe not at all.

I don't beleive this new Clutch will hold up 9,000 Miles like the first one did. Unless you change your Riding Style dramatically, of Course.

I'm happy to report that I can tell no difference in the "slipper clutch". I've put about 70 miles on it now, even my favorite long sweepers showed no tightening of the "slipper" during downshifts. So far the only drawback is the heavier pull at the lever & it's not really that bad. I like the way it feels now. You know you've got a new clutch! The performance is outstanding. The bike has never grab'd so well, not even when it was new. Below is another power shift to 2nd gear that left 100ft of rubber My poor Bridgestone doesn't like the mod much
