TOPIC: AmsOil in Gen 1 V-max
AmsOil in Gen 1 V-max 1 year, 11 months ago #1

Hello again everyone; its been awhile since I have been on here. Riding season is about to begin again for me and I am wanting to put AmsOil in my Gen 1 (2007) Vmax. I have heard that this oil can cause clutch slippage. Has anyone used Amsoil in their Gen 1 Vmax and how was it? Slippage? Ran better? Cooler? Thanks....

As long as you use the bike version and your clutch is not worn out you should have no problems. I really like Amsoil - I use it exclusively in my bike engines and rears.
Speaking of clutch slippage....the heavy duty clutch spring that PCW sells (pcwracing.net) is a great upgrade for the Gen 1 Max. And it's easy to install. Mark |

Ian,
I ran it in my 85 after rebuilding it at 98,000 miles. I've put over 25,000 miles on it and never noticed any difference or problems. I, like a lot of us, run mine pretty hard but no racing, burnouts or wheelies. So I can't say the clutch won't slip under those circumstances, but it never slipped in my normal riding. I plan on using it in my 2010 after break-in. My 2 cents. |

Ok thanks guys. Yeah that confirms things for me. I don't race or do burnouts and such so it should be fine. I have heard elsewhere as well that there shouldn't be clutch slippage issues if I don't do the above things. Thanks,

I know it's late. I used Amsoil in my old Max and use it with Lucus, in my new one. No problems. Amsoil is a leader in synthetics. Good stuff.

I use amsoil in all my bikes and cars including both of my vmax's. The only time you run into clutch slippage is if you use "energy conserving" oil like most 10w30's are.
Amsoil motorcycle oil is designed for wet clutch bikes. If anyone is in the area (Douglassville, PA) I am a dealer for amsoil. Thanks, Rob |

Do you guys use the 10w-40 Amsoil or 20w-50 Amsoil?

I use 20-50 but I generally run in temps of 60+ Deg F

Will an oil with the additive 'ZDDP'' hurt the clutch? I would personally like to use Brad Penn oil if it would not cause clutch slippage.
