I like B_Max's opinion that they could go up to around 60k before changing, but the manual says every 12k. Not sure what to do either. I'm creeping up on 11k miles too.

Of course Yamaha is looking out for their dealers. Changing plugs is money to dealers. Most people will just drop it off to be done. My theory is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". As long as all 4 cyclinders are hitting and no rough idle or other symptoms that would indicate a fouled plug, why change them?
Mine were done last time I had warranty work done, so they only charged me for the plugs ($35). They like selling plugs at that price |

I agree- bad plugs won't hurt the engine, just make it run bad- if it starts to run bad, then do it.

After running 1000 miles stock, 3000 miles with the Catsass and Maxtuner and another 2000 miles with a Power Commander I had to see what mine look like. They looked great. However, the effort to change these plugs is nothing short of Phenominal. What a Hell of a job! Sooo, new plugs went back in and I have a spare set if ever needed. I agree, especially on a stock motor. These plugs may outlast many ownerships. LOL But, if you get curious and experience the work involved to change, you will want to install new. imho

I am collecting body parts now for a Winter project. For consideration to go with my red chrome pieces is the new Mercury metallic white or a black carbon fiber. Of course I need to finish the red chroming, brake/clutch levers, bar ends, brake and shift plates and linkage. Looking at a red powder coating for the wheels, not total, maybe just the rims or just the spokes. Gotta be careful not to over do it. LOL
I am also anxiously awaiting the Brocks 4/2/1 debut. I am a 4/2/1 fan. I have two Catsass system to sell. Sean Morley is evaluating a clear clutch cover conversion with my spare cover. I am also considering selling my 1500 Tourmaster and just go All Out this Winter. Just so much invested and so close to my heart the Tourmaster is. Soooo , a lot to consider for even me. I would really like to do both a metallic white and a black carbon fiber bodyset and switch over mid season next year. like having two bikes. Would definitely have to sell the 1500 to do that. Watch my Facebook page for sneak peeks. LOL rick |
