Are you having issues with your PCV install?

Might want to check out some common problems.

We took the PCV into the Dyno Room for some close up analysis and found several issues, that could be bugging you with your install.

Thanks Oliver, that's some great info. I already know now that my ground is bad, my TPS voltage is as jumpy as an escaped convict at a police convention!

Can't hardly wait for your AutoTune results.

Yeah - I thought so the moment I saw my install doing the voltage dance. Easy fix, but requires a solder job. I am 99% sure this is the main cause for the Autotune problems people are seeing. More on that topic soon.

Is it the digital ground? Similar to the perfect pc install you posted for the Warrior? Dynojet needs to put you on the payroll.

Many thanx for all your work.

Ok. Laptop and notes in hand and heading to the shop...

THANKS FX!! You da man!!

FYI

I will write-up more details but here is the just:

Digital Ground for the APS and TPS is BLACK/BROWN that needs to get connected to the BLACK/WHITE wire (inside the wire loom) of the PCV

The TPS signal (Not APS!) is a WHITE wire at the ECU. Unfortunately, there is another WHITE wire that's the APS. So TPS and APS use the same freaking color! I bet that is causing confusion and incorrectly hooked up PCVs.

The TPS signal is the 5th pin when you look at the bottom of the ECU connector, counting from the right. Right next to it is the APS wire of the same color.

The PCV needs to 'know' the true throttle opening angle to operate reliably and correctly. If in doubt, double check in the software with the bike on a secured (strapped down) stand or best the dyno. At 2000 rpm and WOT, the TPS signal should read 35ish% inside the PCV software.

Hope this helps for now.

This helps a ton. Thanks again FX! I will track down those wires. Where in the software do I check the TPS signal?

Also, I took a short little video of the throttle position voltage readout at idle. When you say it "jumps around" is this what you are talking about? Or are these voltage readings with a range that would be considered "rock solid"?

Well, i have no Expirence with the PC V, nor am I Oliver, but I wouldn't consider this "rock solid". At Idle, the Butterflies aren't moved at all, they open to somewhat 2 Percent and they stay there, after the initial Warm Up of the Motor is done. When the Servos isn't moved, the TPS Signal shouldn't hop around like in your Video.

Ok, a follow-up:

Once FX posted which wires to use to separate the grounds, I put in the "fix". In case any of you are wondering if FX knows what he is talking about, check out this video of the throttle voltage after the swtich: (see post above for the "before" video).

So now we know definitely what he means by ROCK SOLID !

Keep it coming FX... you're a treasure !!!!!

Now if my K&N's would just show up, I could get my Monster Air put on... For now, I'm off to do some riding and hope the Auto-tune can do a better job now of dialing me in.

Re:PCV Under Investigation... 2 years, 5 months ago #10

Awesome video footage!

That is exactly the issue. The first video shows the TPS jump around +-3% - completely unacceptable for a good part throttle map and impossible for the autotune to do its job.

The second one is how it is supposed to be. Very little noise, the bar is not moving, error is less than 0.1%

Thanks for sharing the videos!
