TOPIC: ECU Re-Flashing Service: Questions and Answers

+1 on Muzza and Pokey's questions.
I believe the Euro bikes and Australian bikes are identical. We have an immobilized like the Euro and Canadian bikes. We have the additional wiring for an alarm plug and play. No California canister, etc ... I would think the ECU's would be quite similar. And ours aren't restricted like the French models at 100hp So we didn't need to switch any wiring around to get our 200 ponies Question 1: Will there be a flash for those of us with common 'starvmax.com' mods For instance: X-pipe, Big Air, Top Speed Fix, PC-V, etc.. Question 2: will the reflash give us any extra ponies or only improve throttle response and how the bike reacts to throttle input? Thanks Tim |

Hi Tim
How does the max handle the twisties when the reflash has been done? I ride mostly in some major turns wondering whether the extra power is only suitable for dragging? Or can we apply that power to some twisties?? Cheers Marko |

Do you know if the Australian models have the same ECU as the European bikes? Good question. Until now, I had not researched much outside of the US ECU. We, of course, have a US version with an optional Competition ECU that can be ordered from Yamaha. The Injectors and Ignition coils of both US ECU's are wired differently when compared to some other versions world wide. Then I understand there to be the Canadian/European, French and Japanese versions. These have may or may not have the immobilizer feature. Maybe others can chime in and let us know. Tim |

You cannot be as aggressive with opening the throttle in the lower gears, but the throttle's response is very linear to it's input. One thing you will need to get use to will be the injector cut offs, which I eliminated. I did not like having them re-light just before the apex of a curve. The injectors stay on all the time now. I can "electronically tame" the throttle or leave the cut offs in place, but everyone has been very happy with the current setup. Any changes would require extensive testing to prove something else has not been affected. Tim |

Good morning Tim, and thanks again for being here and answering the questions. I would say you're up early, but then you always are.
It'd be nice know if the non-star bikes all use the same ecu/wiring setup tho.. I told a few that have an extra ECU to get with you for testing Rain headed your way today, already pooring down here this morn... Stay dry |

Question 2: will the reflash give us any extra ponies or only improve throttle response and how the bike reacts to throttle input? Thanks Tim Question 1: Yes, there will be a re-flash available for the typical StarVmax.com mods. Currently, I am working on the Akro with a modified air box tune. When Olivers Big Air kit arrives, I will have Akro with Big Air. February I will have an X-Pipe here and I will build the two or three versions of that setup. Question 2: I hope so. I am re-tuning the YCC-T, individually remapping fuel to each cylinder and I increase the ignition timing to be optimal for 93 octane fuel. I have sent a re-flashed ECU and a competition ECU to be tested by a private party. Results are pending. Tim |

I grind / weld outside the shop to keep the dust down inside. I had two fellows contact me about the Euro ECU's. We may have an answer soon. Tim |

I'll start with the BIG one then.. Our members that have a true Yamaha Vmax want to know about the flash for their bikes & whether it will require moving wires, or any other mods? Do you have a volunteer for the BETA testing? Thanks Tim.. good to have you back I take it you mean the Euro V-Max? I have a set of bins ready to test for the Euro version. They should work without swapping the injector and coil wires as well as eliminating the Error 4 from the Immobilizer. I do not have anyone slated to test it as of yet. Glad to be here Bob! Thanks, Tim I would be willing to test a European ECU re-flash. Just let me know what you want me to do. |

They will be listed on the GuruedGear website by the modifications they are tuned for. Right now I only have the stock bike with a modified air box listed. I hope to list the Akro (4 into 2) with modified air box next. Tim |
