There are a few options out there from cat killers to complete systems, are you looking to keep the stocks mufflers?

well, i was thinking of cutting the stock mufflers and gutting them, I have done quite few mods to my other bikes and almost always cutting and gutting the stock mufflers but i definitely want to remove the cat i just need to know what to put in the place of the cat some kind of x pipe or something of that source and tuning to keep unit from popping

Not another Max in my territory to take down. :focus:

Welcome to the site.. & I would not do the gutting of the OE cans. I ended up destroying both sides of my cans after doing this mod.. Keith rush just put his Akro mide pipe up 4sale and it will fit with ur stock cans with a small cut on the left side heat shield..

With this pipe u will get a much better sound over stock..

Get a PCV & do the ASI MOD for the poppin'.

Look around on the site. It's all n here..

Good luck!

I gutted the stock cans on my 09 about 2 years back, all you have to do is drill the spot welds and gently pry the medal apart to remove the front or rear cover from the muffler and remove the fiberglass packing. That being said if you intend on removing the cat I wouldn't reccomend doing that as it will be REALLY loud. Akrapovic makes midpipe/cat witch is the most popular if all you want to do is remove the cat, but there are other like DAM, UFO, and even a member of the forum, dlcrays, is in the process of making a cat replacement. You will need to do the AIS mod and a good tune like the reflash you can get from Tim Nash At Guredgear or a PCV will be need to stop the popping on deceleration, however the reflash from Tim doesn't require a trip to the dyno as Tim had already done all the work and has even improved throttle control and response!

My suggestion is......purchase the used Akra mid-pipe,use your stock cans, and have your ECU re-flashed. Then for about the price of a full exhaust system (or less), the bike will sound better, it will have shed 20 lbs, and it will run great.

The re-flashed ECU tune can be changed at a very low cost in the future should you decide to change the exhaust or intake. And the mid-pipe can always be re-sold for an amount very close to what you pay for it.
