I had had the same question last year; bought a new 2010 Vmax and don’t regret it one bit. I have been riding on the street for about 26 years, and most of that has been on sport bikes. It was hard to make the switch at first. Since the Vmax purchase I have sold my, 07 ZX10, 09 Buell 1125R and a 08 ZX6 track bike; I know exactly where you are coming from. I don’t ride more than three hours at a time, so it’s fine for me. The gas mileage is a bit annoying when you ride with others, but it is what it is. Like the others mentioned, it’s a unique bike that draws attention. As far as performance, it won’t corner like a sport bike, but it will out corner any cruisers I have ridden with. When I decided to pull the trigger, I had already tried the Ducati Diavel, Chose the Vmax for various reasons. This bike actually makes me laugh out loud!

Tim,
To be honest it was a coincidence that I sold three bikes right around the Vmax purchase. The whole story is that in 08 I bought a Harley Night Rod to replace the ZX10 which I got a great deal on. The Night Rod was nice but it wasn’t fast and I was getting bored with it. In an attempt to make it faster I was just wasting money. I wanted a cruiser to do most my riding on because I’m getting old and my back is wrecked and my wrist hurt from the sport bikes (that's the main reason). I figured I would keep the ZX10 since I already put too much money into it and just have it as a weekend bike. I gave up on the Night Rod and sold it. At that time Buell announced their closing and Buell bikes became half price. An AMA championship was just won on a Buell 1125, so I figured it would be a fun bike to own; Lots of mechanical issues so it had to go. Just so happens, an abundance in past year bikes were really cheap in 2010 so I picked up a brand new 08 ZX6 for $5999.00. My plan was to turn it into a track bike because I had friends pressuring me, as we are trying to relive our youth. Long story shot... So I ended up selling everything just a week before the Vmax. I lost track of my main goal, buying a bike that’s comfortable, fast and bad ass. Sport bikes are fun, but you almost have to break the law constantly to have fun on them; my wife doesn’t like riding on the back of sport bikes either. Trust me when I say, the Vmax gets a lot of respect from other bikers, even sport bike riders. You can have lots of fun on it too! If I could afford to have both - maybe a new ZX14 too Good luck |

Welcome to the sickness of the quickness Tim.
I would have to say that I totally agree with most every comment throughout this thread. Especially those of VmaxOz. Seeing a concept design sketch in a motorcycling magazine 10 years before its unveiling I had already made up my mind I was gonna get me one of them when they were available. This site was instrumental in my decision to "Go for it" with the information of its release. The Vmax made me giggle like a school girl within the first minute of leaving the dealership, out of the intersection, then with the twist of the wrist in first Nearly at 50,000km now in 3.3 years, lost count on tires, 11 rear and 4 front tires I think, couldn't recommend another bike like it. Power when you want, unique looks, awesome cruiser and so much more. Well what are ya waiting for, Get Maxed, You'll love it! Cheers, Pokey. |
