I have a 86 Yamaha V-Max, I got it a year ago as a gift for my birthday from my wife.
I have wanted this bike ever since I first saw it 14 years ago. My father in law at age 75 finally decided to sell it to my wife as he just rides the Harleys now. He kept the bike in tip top shape, I have since enjoyed every second of ownership. Love the rides and how it rides. The only thing I have done so far is put a K&N air filter in it. Looking to have the scoops redone in the future. I like talking about V-Max and seeing them as I have only seen a few here in northeast Ohio. Looking forward to some rides this summer with the wife as she has her own(v-star)

Welcome to the site.. There are many people here well versed on both generations of the Vmax. Looks like yours is in great shape! The Cobra pipes are wicked sounding but not the best performing pipes.. Good luck with it

Ive owned 3 of the gen 1 bikes, in my opinion its one of the greatest bikes ever made. I went from a vmax to a hayabusa, had that for about 6 months, went back to the v-max!. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum! Bob is right on about the cobra's, they sound awesome but can actually hinder the performance compared to the stock exhaust. If you like the sound and do not care about the performance aspect keep them, but if you want more power you'd be better off looking at a different set-up on your beast.

That's a cool history of a very cool bike. I'm sure it makes it all that much more special to you. Ride safe and keep us posted on your experiences with it. Mike. |

Welcome here. Have fun with your Vmax! They last for ever if you take care of them.
I had 2 Gen1's and now a Gen2. Can't beat the beast, hehe. |
