TOPIC: New V-Max Owner

New V-Max Owner 9 months 2 weeks ago #1

My name is Burt. I live in southwest (lower-slower) Delaware. I have been riding off and on since the mid sixties. Owned a couple of bikes from 1964 til about 1974 when I sold the last bike due to family career; etc. I always knew that someday I would own another motorcycle. Got another motorcycle, 2001 Honda Spirit in 2002. Then bought a new 2004 Yamaha Warrior. I also bought my son's 2005 FJR 1300 after his death in Dec. 2007. When the Gen 2 V-Max was introduced I wanted to own one immediately, but the money wasn't right. Finally, a couple of weeks ago the local Yamaha dealer was having a demo day and I took a demo ride on a V-Max. That did it! I walked directly over to the dealer and tried to make a deal, but we were about $500.00 apart. A couple of days later I received an e-mail from Yamaha offering an extra $500.00 on any trade in. Well, this put me in the ball game again. Went to the dealer, showed him the offer from Yamaha and the rest is history.

Just picked up my new '12 V-Max about a 10 days ago. So far, so good. The only thing that is causing a little getting used to is the throttle/clutch when leaving a dead stop, but it's getting better.

Welcome Burt and congrats  I remember back in 09 trying to get used to the throttle and I immediately acquired a throttle tamer from Evoluzione (funny, like you could really tame this beast) and it helped for sure but the true cure is the Nash Flash (also funny, this cleans up the sloppy throttle but also unleashes the beast). Good luck and safe riding to you!

Welcome and congrats on finally getting the bike you wanted....it's a great one!

I had the same issue with the moving from a stop clutch throttle thing when I first got the bike. I was always thinking about it when taking off.

I'm not sure when it got better....but it never crosses my mind anymore. Taking all of the slop out of the throttle cable helps for sure.....and as mentioned the ECU re-flash works wonders.

Enjoy the new toy and ride safe!

Welcome to the Vmax Family Burt.

Don't give it too much throttle before letting the clutch go, unless your good friends with a tire fitter...

Have heaps of fun on ya new Beast.

Pokey.

Morning Burt and welcome to the sickness! :smash:

I had issues also early on with the clutch/ throttle coordination......practice, practice, practice (more riding!) And do put Tims reflash on your list of "must do" items!

Enjoy your new ride.
