Wow…I am totally pumped to finally join this forum. I have been following all the threads religiously even before I put my order in back on June 7 for the best bike on the planet. I feel like I actually know some of you! I owned the ’85 version for about 8 years and when I finally parted ways I made a vow that however long it took (not knowing just how excruciatingly long it would be…) that if they ever came out with a Gen 2, I was going to be one of the first on the waiting list. And for the record, I’m #345. Yeah, it’s on the pricey side, but frankly I would have paid more. There is NOTHING like coming through a corner, hopping on the throttle at the apex, hangin’ the @$$ end out while leaving 50 ft black marks AND lofting the front wheel simultaneously. Now THAT is priceless….and more fun than a human being should be allowed to have (ok...so maybe it's not allowed
And the roads in Lancaster County, PA are perfectly suited for this. Lots of meandering curves, ¼ mile straights and 90 degree corners….with limited traffic. Just watch out for those Amish buggies and in particular, the nervous horses pulling them….and the droppings they leave behind I’m looking forward to doing some upgrades soon, especially with the exhaust which has been my one and only disappointment (but not surprised) with the bike. So far, I’ve got the low backrest which has been a literal life saver for several fortunate souls that have experienced the beast one seat removed and I just made the intakes bright red (and they look AWESOME). Hand grips, fender eliminator and mirrors are probably next on the list. So…that’s my intro. I consider it a privilege to be connected with all you guys. I look forward to contributing… |

Hope I didn't mislead anyone...the scoops aren't red, just the intake screens which I shamelessly stole from someone on this site. I will download a pic later (once I figure out how), but nothing different than many of you have seen already. That being said, they look better than I expected. My wife passed me going the opposite direction and she said they looked awesome and you couldn't miss em'.
I took delivery two weeks before Christmas (nice present, eh!) and have 2700 miles on her. I am not a cold weather rider, but the BEAST is way too much fun to stay off of. |

DrewMax and rider,
You lucky guys, Lancaster, PA (home of B&B Yamaha) or close by. Long story: Bought 2002 Max "new" ( not from B&B ), ran like crap and 2 spark plugs pitch black and two pure white. No one would listen and said nothing wrong with plugs. This went on for two years. Friend riding with me told me my bike was smoking out the exhaust. Got really ticked and bugged factory rep until he suggested I get the exhaust analyzed. No one had working equipment until someone suggested B&B in Lancaster. Made a long haul to them and showed them the plugs. They immediately said something definitely was wrong and I worked with Yamaha to pay for it if something was found. Several weeks went by and I got a call from B&B "five times too lean". They immediately called Yamaha. They knew has ticked I was that no one would listen before them. Yamaha allowed me to extend my warranty up to five years. B&B told me on the phone that my Max now was the strongest running Max they seen in 5 years. I'm thinking right, thanks for trying to calm me down. They told me to try it on the way home but I didn't, just parked it for later. The next time I got it out I gave the throttle a little quick twist, the bike "immediately" lunged violently ahead. I called B&B and asked them what they did to it. They said they richened it up with the analyzer to the high end and then final tuned it "by ear". The bike is now a freaken screamer, it pulls the front end in second and third gear with the Mrs. on and she loves it. And it been doing it for years now since I got it back from B&B. This was not my first Max either so I know how they run. The guys at B&B were great to me and my bike but they are way to far away from me so I bought the 09 Max more locally. The 09 Max scares the Mrs. but maybe a backrest would help. Please don't scare the nice horses in your area. Remember there is one of them and 197 of you. |

890209; thanks for the tip regarding B&B. Interestingly enough, a mechanic I work with told me about the same place...so I actually stopped in today. Big place with a lot of accessories (including the kuryakyn grips). Seems like they get into a decent amount of performance work which my dealer doesn't. As far as the back rest...definitely get it. Some others think it's too small and/or low, but I think it' perfect. Not only does it not destroy the lines of the bike, I think it actually enhances. And my wife loves it.
Thanks vmaxbabe! I've got a couple more stories, but I'll post on a new thread. Rider: Hope to see you around. I updated my profile...now you will know if it's me |
