TOPIC: Another Newbie!

Another Newbie! 3 years 4 months ago #1

Hello Folks,

I am a newbie to this site and probably one of the oldest members here at the age of 59. Have not owned a bike since 1976 and decided it was time to get back into the biking game while I still have decent health to go a few more laps. Back in 1967-69 did some quarter mile bike racing with a 750cc P-11 Norton until I got drafted into the Army, got married and had a family. Basically loss interest due to longer work hours and the treacherous traffic here in Houston.

Looking for the right deal on a clean low mileage used Vmax (2005 or later) because my budget is around $6,000. I do not plan on buying this bike to race, just like to feel the power and looks of this muscle cruiser. So that’s my story and look forward to leaning more about the Vmax and sharing information on this forum.

Please send any information that may be helpful in my search.

Welcome!

If I recall correctly, Sean Morley might well have a 2005 Max for sale, and you can count on it being in great running order. You can get him here: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Hi Cool_Breeze, welcome on this site/board!

Members here are Vmax crazy, so read through the lines a bit if they're a bit too enthousiastic (and no, this remark is not directed at the good tip Jayhawk gives you in the reply above).

Have fun looking for a Vmax to your liking. Even cruising with this bike you feel the held back power of the beast!

Let us know if you've succeeded in requiring one. :woohoo:

Oh BTW: last month one of my uncles died, but he was a biker down to the bone and crazy about Nortons. He used to own and ride a Norton Commander with loads of race parts on it! Too bad he's no longer with us (he was 85).

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

Sorry to hear about the passing of your uncle, I can relate to the race parts he added.

The P11 stood for project 11 which was made in 1967-68 time period (One year only). Earlier years this bike was also called a "scrambler" these bikes were mainly used for racing at high speeds around circle dirt tracks.

In 1969 the Commando came out which was the same cc but had a revised motor that gave it more H.P. but added more weight as well. I had the P-11 heads ported and polished, bored out the cylinders to add some larger 10:1 high compression Commando pistons, added a hotter cam, changed out the primary sprocket from a 19 to a 17 tooth, ran straight velocity air intake stacks and exhaust and away I went to outrun every street bike I came across in Houston during that short time period.

“Oh” them where the days!

Welcome Cool_Breeze. How far are you wanting to travel for a decent Max? I suppose I should say 'willing'. You probably want to travel little as possible. I've been shopping around for another bike for my wife. I've been searching around a days travel or closer. Been seeing some Maxes pop up here and there. Theres some good deals to be made.

Whats been your temps? The Arctic has moved into my neighborhood for a while. Was -2F at noon today. We're suppose to hit as low as -15F by the end of the week, with 6" snow possible, and 25-30 mph winds. Wheres that global warming when you need it?
