Carbon Fiber to the Max!
Written by fxstein

Carbon Fiber VMax

Carbon Fiber has long become THE material for light weight racing applications as well as anything high tech from mountain bikes to aircrafts and spaceships. A material so strong and light that there is virtually no competition for it. In most applications form and looks are secondary to the function - it being super light weight.

Over the past couple of years more and more good looking carbon fiber has hit the accessories market for cars and motorcycles a like. Good looking and real CF usually don't go well together. If it looks perfect, it's printed and then it does not look real. If its real, it usually has flaws, especially around complex shapes.

2010 VMax - Dirty Filter Secrets
Written by fxstein
Saturday, 13 March 2010 22:38

K&N FIlters for the 2010 VMaxAir filters are supposed to keep the dirt out of the engine. Unfortunately they are also treated like trade secrets. K&N has long been the leading after market filter provider for most street and race applications out there. Many racers and street riders alike swear by their products.

K&N offers a wide range of custom and universal filters. We use them for the Big Air Setup for ultimate performance. They have proven time and again that they are at the top of performance and longevity - especially if you treat them according to the manufacturers specs and clean them with K&N filter cleaner every 20-50k miles and re-oil them with K&N filter oil. For more information on how to clean K&N air filters see your K&N product manual.

October 25th 2009 - Sacramento, CA - Sacramento Raceway Park - 2009 Star VMax Drag Fest

The all mighty 2009 VMax: Burnout at the Drags

Photos by fonzie

We did it! Our first of many more to come Drag Fest events here in beautiful California. For www.starVmax.com and its members (including our sister site www.rswarrior.com) we went all out and rented the Sacramento Raceway Park for a full day of drag racing, adrenaline, roaring engines, screaming tires and the smell of burned rubber mixed with a hint of race gas. If you have not experienced an event like that, you don't know what you have missed. Better even, if you have not taken your bike down that quarter miles, you have really no idea what it is all about.

There is good riders and there is Randy aka Ranimal aka CruiseMissile. A gifted Custom bike builder and probably the best rider I have met on the streets. Whenever we get a chance we tear up roads together. Unfortunately being 2500 miles apart, keeps that to a once a year activity (at best).

Our September VMax of the month in full action at the Dragon - Route 129 - Deals Gap.

Jay Leno donates 2010 VMaxCypress, California – Jay Leno will be appearing in Las Vegas on Saturday, October 10. The star of The Jay Leno Show is no stranger to 'Vegas – he did over 160 stand-up gigs last year. But this time, he's proving that he's really a 'stand-up guy.'

Leno will be at the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction and he'll be helping the famed auctioneers get the highest bid for his customized Star VMAX motorcycle. The proceeds of the sale will go to Bailey's Café, a community program that brings art education to some of New York's toughest neighborhoods.

“Bailey's Café is an arts program,” says Jay, “but since I didn't have any Yamaha musical instruments to auction off, I thought I'd sell my Star VMAX, which was made by Yamaha.”

VMax X-Pipe Dyno Charts - 194.7 rwhps

You might have seen our Video comparison of one of our members exhaust project. The X-Pipe - as he calls his design - has been discussed in great detail on our forums and until now its performance figures where pure speculation.

Today we had the chance to spend about 2h at our local Dyno shop to perform some testing and tuning. Together with the X-Pipe setup we have recently installed a Power Commander PCIII USB on our test bike, which allows us to fine tune the bikes fuel map to the requirements of the new setup.

Equipped with a Dynojet Wideband Commander for data logging we went out to test what this configuration can deliver and how it compares to the stock bike

VMax History: Exceeding 200 hps at the wheel
Written by fxstein
Friday, 02 October 2009 22:10

Today October 2nd 2009 is a day for the Star VMax history books.

In preparation for the upcoming www.starVmax.com Drag Fest event on October 25th 2009 at Sacramento Raceway, we have done our near final race modifications and put the first bike through tuning.

We set ourselves a lofty goal of beating 200 rwhps in at least STD correction, or about 195 rwhps SAE. Months of tuning and design have gone into the setup of the bike and we plan to have two very similar configured bikes at the track in three weeks, to see what they can do in the quarter 1/4 mile.

Jay Gleason 9.51 - VMax History

Jay Gleason does it again! As reported in great details on our forums, Jay Gleason managed to put the hammer down yet again. Last week he rode a mild custom 2009 Vmax to a breathtaking 9.51 @ 143 mph in the quarter mile.

With the help of Bob Ward (aka Bad_Bob) and Tim Nash (aka VMaxGuru) the racing community witnessed an historic event and what is most likely the start of an even wilder journey.

Within only a few months the new VMax has already attained cult status amongst many racing and muscle bike fans around the world. Now that the legend - Jay Gleason - has shown us once again what racing is all about, we are sure to see a lot more attention from tuners and enthusiasts alike for the all new Next Generation VMax.

Without further due, here is a first hand summary of the events that unfolded by Bob Ward:

VMax X-Pipe Video Comparison
Written by fxstein
Saturday, 21 February 2009 03:11

Our member blueta71 took on this very interesting side project to build an X-Pipe collector eliminator for the VMax. We got the setup about 2 weeks ago, but due to rain we did not get a chance to film it until this week.

We finally go a chance to run the X-Pipe side by side against a stock 2009 VMax trying to capture the differences in sound.

Even with an HD camcorder the sound cannot be captured to represent real live sound experience. This is a futile attempt to bring you a short clip comparing stock with x-pipe.

This video has been filmed in 1080p HD and produced in 720p for extra clarity and better sound resolution.

You still shift with your foot. The quick shifter lefts you power shift without using the clutch for upshifts. You lift the shifter and the engine fule delivery gets killed for the amount of time specified. That in return unloads the gearbox and makes for a nice, clean and extremely fast shift.

Yes you can shift normal with the clutch. You can also set rpm limits.

Hope this helps!
